If he Police stopped and checked all farm tractors for compliance with the Highway Code, they could raise a lot of revenue on multiple contraventions, I believe?

If they stopped every half blind, dithering, dawdling, middle lane hogging idiot who makes a habit of stopping at roundabouts when the road is clear, parks on peoples drives or double yellows when picking their poxy kids up from school, don't indicate ever, think speeding's a crime, but 40 everywhere is ok, things might really improve. Until the above scenario is a reality however, I think your plea about tractors may fall on deaf ears!

Which police officers do you expect to do this? The ones with the massive work loads trying to keep things together?

I am not sure Farm tractors have to comply with the Highway Code. Maybe Construction and Use. I am not sure what OP is saying.

No light boards on trailers

Carrying passengers in the cab

Showing white lights to the rear

Holding up traffic by going slow

There is a maximum speed they are allowed to travel at, depending on width and tractor type. 25mph being the max for a 'normal' tractor.

I imagine that if you examined all of the few serious accidents a year involving tractors defects on the tractor will have been a factor in absolutely none of them.

I don't get time for a piss let alone time to do some proactive tractor patrol.

I find tractors are about the only slow moving vehicles that still pull over to let people pass. More power to them (no pun required).

Not seen any of that round here, and they tend to pull in if a queue builds.

Yeah, that is terrible. I experience that sort of problem at least once a year. Get all those traffic cars off the M6 and on to the B5612 fighting some real crime.

Pop over here to Norway.

They drive on the Motorway with their 5w rear lights showing the standard 'faded to pinky white', bear in mind we don't see the sun until Easter, you approach them at 1.5 leptons and see them at the last minute.

They're supposed to turn on the flashing orange light on the roof, last time that happened was 1964 and only because the farmer dropped his bulging wallet on the switch.

Still, we don't have horses all over the place in the sticks, I don't miss that at all.

If you clamped down on dodgy farmers, there would be none left to do any work and we'd all go hungry burger

How on earth do you cope with elks then? Unless you have thermal imaging, (as Volvo do, I believe).

There are many many more things on the highway that the police should be thining about before tractors - I has the misfortune to be in the back of a car travelling on the M25 on sunday afternoon - in fact all the way back to Portsmouth to get the ferry back to the Island - the standard of driving & the conduct of some drivers is crazy - I thank my lucky stars I got back in one piece and that I dotn have to venture onto motorways/dual carriageway/ the mainland on a regular basis. Hats of to the guys on here that have to endure it everyday.

Have you been over here recently? It's the cyclists which are the bloody menace nowadays. Come round a corner on a NSL road to see one, dithering along in the middle of the road at 15mph, their lighting seems to have 2 modes as well, either none at all or a miss adjusted LED head light and a head torch which lights the road ahead WITH THE MIGHT OF A THOUSAND fkING SUNS, meaning if you meet one at night your ability to actually avoid target fixation and see the road ahead is minimal. Worse thing is is when they inevitably get clipped it seems to always be everyone else's fault.

Tractors not really a problem, they don't tend to go huge distances and many pull over.

Horse boxes on the other hand.....25mph max, brake for everything, often only 1 brake light, never pull over and drop muck all over the roads
