French speed cameras

After years of saying cheese as i flew past shed loads of flashing money makers and the fact i believe us Brits can now be fined via post i decided to take my time on this years road trip......until on the return journey i said cheese twice within 4km!!!!, anybody actually been fined yet as in by post??, i was doing 100kph in a 90kph on both occasions ((-:

Yes, from May 2017, France has access to DVLA records and will post you the fines.

Thats what i am trying to find out to be honest, if i get done then fine i am guilty ,just have to wait and see

I feel your pain.

I was flashed on the way back to the Roscoff ferry last month. 0700, empty road. Doing about 100 clicks in a 70 I believe.

So far, not heard anything - 19 days elapsed although nothing I've read states any 'deadline' for them to issue the ticket. In fact, everything I read is a big vague and non specific as to how the sharing of details will work.

I was thinking that. They might well have the ability, but can they be bothered
for small amounts ? It will cost them in postage and processing and it will only
increase the chances of Brits going elsewhere by car.

The French aren't so speed obsessed as the Brits and IIRC it's only EUR 90 (i.e.
about the cost of a tank of fuel for some of us) for anything up to 50 kmh over the limit.
Most civilised, I find.

Over 50 kmh over, they might well bother, but then, that's pretty serious speeding.
For example 110 mph and more in an 80 mph limit.

Mine were ; one front and one rear, it was the fact that both happened within 5mins of each other that really annoyed me, time to get a detector for France now and yes i know they are illegal but since i work mainly in France and have in the past used navigation with cameras without issue i deem it worth while

I live in Brussels and get flashed all the time, I havent heard anything yet!

Does anyone know if the european data sahring agreement with euro member states actually got passed as I cant find anything abut it being law yet on any uk .gov website

there were 3 countries that didnt sign up UK, Ireland and Denmark. we all got a 2 year extension to bring into law, that expired in May...

A friend of mine got flashed the day the supposed law was brought in and as yet nothing

here is the directive but it seems its not been updated, they have taken it for granted that at the end of the 2 year ext for the final 3 member states have agreed to the directive.

reading through the government gumph it seems that it hasnt been adopted in the UK

UK have to give updates every 2 years

the cost to the DVLA to set up is £399k in IT CAPEX and £54k OPEX at this time nothing has been done

Yet it seems the UK does not have a reciprocal arrangement, whereby drivers from other countries are chased for fines where they have been caught by speed cameras, or for not paying the Dartford Crossing fee. It seems to be something to do with the way in which payment fines are administered on the continent, compared to the UK. e.g. the vehicle or the driver.

TBH, French speed cameras are pretty easy to avoid anyway as they're well signed and there's apps such as Tom Tom which will warn you of all of them.

The real reason not to speed on French roads is because they have actual road traffic police who will actually pull you over!

I may have broken the speed limits in France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Czech, Austria, Italy and Switzerland on my road trip in June. I haven't heard anything from anyone - yet!!!!

As you can see I'm not very good at speed limits
