We have some new neighbours opposite and up 1 door who have just moved in (only rented house in the street!!!) And they have this illegal off-road bike, caught the older lad riding it through the alleys and along the green where children play last week. Reported it to the local police. Fast forward till tonight and hear the fking thing start up again on the street, this time a younger guy riding it. Speeds off down the street and through the alleys, but then he comes back pushing the bike quite quickly and rushes into the front door pushing the bike into their house. I wonder if he's done something like knock someone over or hit something, does seem very odd. I know there's nothing else that can be done as the police have been informed already. Just frustrating to say the least

Does the bike look road legal (lights and plates?).Rider look old enough to be licensed and wearing a helmet? If not, report to police and escalate with them until they do look into it.

Nope no plates, no lights, one of the riders is a man in his 30's and the other possibly his son so teens. But they wear helmets which is weird

In that case, all you can do realistically is report to the police your concerns that an unregistered vehicle (meaning no tax, MOT and probably no insurance) is being driven on the roads and in areas that shouldn't be used by vehicular traffic.

To get the attention of the police though, you probably just need to tell them you saw it being ridden at 31mph in a 30 limit wink

I'll just point one of my air soft guns at the rider. Soon get the message if a Barret 50cal is aimed at them. The police would be straight at the scene then laugh

Film and report to the feds.
Although being a snitch may come back to haunt you. If they are otherwise good I'd probably look the other way as long as they don't take the piss.

The highlighted part is a strange statement to make!

The injuries that are possible from riding a motorbike don't change if the bike is road legal or not.

It's a bit like saying: "They were driving a stolen car, but they were using the seatbelts, which is weird"

Believe or not, some Law breakers do also still have a sense of self-preservation!

If they report you to the Police, you'll be the one in trouble. I think I'd refrain from pointing an air rifle at anyone. As much as a pain it is them riding an off road bike recklessly I'd let the Police deal with it.

Highlighted bit makes sense IF bike is not road legal. Non legal bike types didn't take long to cotton on to fact that no helmet marks them out as non legal and easy to identify. i'd suggest the helmet is not for self -preservation, but to attempt to make the rider look road legal.
. Best way to get police attention and action is to highlight fact that there's a person of young years ( younger than should be possible to hold a licence for that bike) , riding around on a bike, with no regard for public safety . Locally, nuisance ( and obviously ) possibly illegal mopeds/bikes reports get put to the back of the queue ,with manpower restraints, but the minute a child is involved, then it becomes a priority.

I was helping a family member move house last week. He has a big field in front of his house which appear during the summer holidays to turn into a off road biking track.

The place was like being on the set of Shameless.

Not really applicable - as not in U.K. - but one way to deal with it...

We had a young Aussie surfer type staying on our lane two years ago. Mix of houses here, forieign and local owned, from big villas to small rooms for locals.

The lane is not very wide; you drive slowly and beep at each corner, at night you don't beep the horn but flash your lights instead.

Aussie guy was hacking it at max speed at all times of day and night on some sort of trail bike - sliding into one sharp bend and then rocketing through an area where there are kids, old people, chickens, dogs etc. He really didn't care. Near misses with cars - just scraping through between car and wall at speed - crazy! No helmet of course.

Had people shout at him etc. One of our neighbour's had a word with him and told him to pack it in. Aussie continued to race his way around and was told again a few days later - stop it.

Now my neighbour is a nice French guy - we share a wiskey from time to time and he always has tales of stuff that has happened to him in his life - usually violent - some of which I've taken with a pinch of salt....

However, a few days after the last warning Aussie chap goes full pelt down the stretch outside neighbour's only to be smashed off his bike by a length of wood. He is then given a severs kicking and his bike destroyed beyond repair.

I saw the guy a day or two later limping along the lane and he was a mess. However peace and quiet returned to the lane.

Obviuosjy not possible in the UK.......

I thought you were going to say he took the Mr Altabani approach, but then he probably didn't have a pretty bike in the first place.

The highlighted part doesn't make sense because it implies that, as they're prepared to break the Law by riding a non-road legal bike on the roads, it's weird that they obey the Law on wearing helmets.

Based on both My: "Self preservation" theory, and your: "It makes them look more legal" theory, it shouldn't be weird at all that they wear helmets!

OP has said the bike has no plates, so they aren't wearing a helmet to look road legal.

Surely it's obvious why they have a helmet on? If the police see them then they can't be identified, and sadly these days they aren't allowed to pursue in case the little sts hurt themselves.

Every incident should be reported to police. They will get a neighbourhood team to visit at the least, but it may take a few reports.
Likely give the people a talking too as first option. If it starts again keep reporting it. Maybe video evidence to back up ( be aware to try to not reveal who takes it!).
The ultimate is if police can catch them in the act. This could then result in impounding/crushing.
The NPT are usually proactive in these ASB type behaviours so keep reporting it.
It may take a while, though, depending how much of an arse the neighbours are.

I did mention at the start and end of my anecdote that this would not be possible in U.K.

The Aussie lad could have gone to Police but if Police had then spoken to local people about the incident it probably would not have gone any further.

Endangering kids and chickens - people told you to stop it - you didn't - what did you think would happen then?
