Its provoking some interesting comments on twitter, SGT and his other crew member filmed on a mobile a 140mph run to a burglary that turned out to be a non event, mixed opinions on twitter, some senior police condoning the posting on social media, seems to be quite proud of himself in his comments.

Not disputing the ridiculous amount of training our traffic police get and the high standard of driving but should he have posted this? interested to hear what any other police thought?

Not sure how to link to twitter but its @DC_ARVSgt

So what? I drive 140 regularly on the motorway to grade 1 emergency calls. What's the issue?

There are plenty of bleating comments about the speed. In Germany they let untrained members of the public go faster than that on the autobahn but for some reason highly trained Police drivers over here are utterly lethal when doing 140 on a motorway.

Slightly off topic, but what vehicle? And does it feel safe at that speed? Would this only happen during quiet roads, as surely the public cant be trusted to not move into your lane.

A number. Skoda vRS, BMW 5 & 3 series. Volvos, Fords.

Yes it feels safe on a long straight motorway. Like in the video that officer posted, it was a long straight motorway at night with no traffic. He wasn't doing 140mph in a 30mph school zone.

Should be concentrating on the job in hand and not messing around filming themselves.
Is that really a proportionate speed to answer a call to intruders on in a scrap yard?

I have 30yrs of 'self training' but if I did exactly the same thing I would lose my job and probably go to jail so it can't be safe...

But I appreciate that police officers brains are wired differently than civilians brains and they can do this kind of thing AND hold a conversation at the same time in Perfect safety smile

Well yes because it's against the law. Police (And others) have an exemption in law in certain situations such and speeding, red lights etc.

It was the passenger filming not the driver and it was a simple video, not messing around.

Yes, perfectly proportionate. A crime (burglary) is in progress, offenders still on scene, witnesses and residents on scene too.

It's no different to someone breaking into your house, that scrap yard is someones livelihood.

Considering it would have been reported as a burglary in progress, yes.

Also the fact that police vehicles have loud woo woos and big flashy blue lights to inform the public of their impending appearance.

Fair enough but why share the film - they know it wont necessarily get a good reaction or are they searching for praise? Not the first time this Sgt has caused controversy with his selfies

If the BiB had got to the fire at my workshop before the fire brigade then they'd have caught the stbags that caused £300k of damage and cost me my business. I'd have gladly let them pass, however they arrived 40 minutes after I did, once the 2 tenders put the fire out.

My car is fitted with small reflective panels in convenient locations that allow me to actually see approaching vehicles even when they are behind me!

So far it has had no problems picking out lights on cars even when they are boring white and not flashing blue.

I thing it should be a legal requirement for all cars to have these fitted and for drivers to check them regularly. I have actually found that with a little practise it is like second nature and I don't even realise I am doing it now!

I bet thousands of people have watched it and don't care but there is always the portion of the general public who need to board the outrage train and ironically it'll be a those idiots moaning about response times when they require the police rolleyes

Non event.

Other than that I can't think of anything worse than having a police social media account.

Social media has its place, we often post good jobs on ours and people love seeing a dealer having his door took off with a chainsaw etc.

Good for missing persons, identifying suspects and sharing info too.

Some common sense is required though.
