Parking companies - Motorbikes
Discussion
My girlfriend lives in an area full of parking restrictions, 30 minutes at a time or a hour for a road around the corner. It isn't too much of a problem at the weekend or evenings, but does mean I have to move by 8.30/9 depending on where I park.
She has a car park that she requires a permit to be displayed...she doesn't drive so this isn't a problem at all, but I want to know where I stand if I ride my bike to hers (often do). I can't display a permit as there is nothing stopping someone stealing it, or it just blowing off/getting water damaged.
Any ideas where I stand if I was to park in the car park without displaying the permit? The company is Premier Park.

Reminds me of the problem of tax discs being nicked from bikes.
You could try and stick a photocopy of the permit in the screen and mark it as "Photocopy of real permit". Also take a photo of the bike parked up with the proper permit in place.
I used to do that with my tax disc and never had an issue, or a theft.

Probably have a parking charge issued to the registered keeper. Read the terms and see if their is an exemption for MC's. Failing that, call the company and ask.
Annoyingly they don't have a phone number to speak to someone, just pay the charge. I've emailed them via their appears email though. Probably have a parking charge issued to the registered keeper. Read the terms and see if their is an exemption for MC's. Failing that, call the company and ask.

Or just park up, make sure the bike is solidly chained and remove your numberplate...
Your unlikely to have a problem then.
Thats way to much hard work ha. Your unlikely to have a problem then.
Private parking companies can't issue fines, they can only issue invoices which have to be representative of their loss in the case of improper parking. There is no loss if you park your bike there without a permit as you are using your g/f parking spot.
OTOH while you won't have to pay anything, it could be a major PITA to sort out. Email the parking company, tell them you will be parking there and tell them it is not practical to display a permit.

Being representative of their loss was the key point of the PE v Beavis case, so unfortunately that argument hasn't been a valid defence point since 2015.OTOH while you won't have to pay anything, it could be a major PITA to sort out. There are many other points though, especially with permit only spaces, such as forbidding contracts and landowner authority, and even of the tenant/resident has primacy of contract.
Realistically, it is probably more sensible to contact the residents management company to discuss options first, such as whitelisting the registration of the bike.

Can you at a copy of the T&Cs? It may make reference to cars only I which case bikes should be fair game.
Alternatively you could report the pass as lost / stollen each time you visit. After few times they may find it easier to help rather than hide from the issue.
The signs around the car park I believe state 'vehicles'. I'll double check again tomorrow. I like the last idea...Alternatively you could report the pass as lost / stollen each time you visit. After few times they may find it easier to help rather than hide from the issue.
That document holder, nothing stopping anyone pulling it off.
Isn't there anywhere you can sensibly park off the road round there? Central Manchester has parking restrictions everywhere but I've never any problems parking on the pavement. As long as you aren't parking in the way of people I doubt anyone would care.
(Ignore this advice if you are in London though)

Are you sure you're not asking "Can I just park here with impunity and the Car Parking company isn't screwed."

Sadly no, my step dads friend used to own the shop out the front of the flats and he used to park outside (pavement is huge, enough room for two Transits to park with space). He ended up with a ticket for it. (Ignore this advice if you are in London though)

What value would it be to someone to pull it off? Come to that what value is there in someone stealing the permit? The permit will be numbered and therefore instantly invalidated for anyone trying to use it. It also makes it completely obvious who stole it anyway.

It isn't the best of areas, its a main route from town with pissed people. Friday/Saturday night there are always cars with new damage on them. I don't believe the permits are numbered either (can't see anything standing out on it). Are you sure you're not asking "Can I just park here with impunity and the Car Parking company isn't screwed."

In summary your girlfriend has a private parking space in a controlled area, that's got little control over permits and a load of people wandering through it pissed on a regular basis. Sounds like a cash cow to me

How would a company manage a car park with such lax controls? If you're that bothered about theft of permit, then buy a marker pen and swipe a great big cross on your permit.
