Was coming southbound on the M1 last night and spotted an odd looking flashing yellow light coming up from behind. Eventually see it's an idiot on a motorbike with no front lights at all apart from a flashing rh indicator!

As well as thinking what an utter wker, I was wondering what offences he was guilty of.

As in his lights weren't working, or it was a race fairing and there were none present.

Also - could it have been an R1 - on first inspection my bike looks like it has no front lights...

Bert
I am sure that's an offence for a start.

It was an old bike, definitely with no front lights working. At one stage in temp roadworks, single file he was riding behind me and turned off his indicator. Virtually invisible! Perhaps he was in stealth mode!

At what time was this? was it dark? He may have had a daytime mot.
so his indicator was flashing, was he changing lanes?
why was he a wker?

Virtually invisible?
was he wearing road coloured clothing with white stripes dotted along them to blend in?

Errrrrr, the clue was in the first post.... using the word 'night', which I often find to be dark!

it gets dark at 4pm in winter, is that still night wink
so now we have ascertained he was riding in the dark with no lights. yes, he is a complete chump! laugh

However, it is useful shorthand for "an MOT pass with an advisory stating that the vehicle has no lights and may not, therefore, be used in darkness or when there is reduced visibility" (or whatever the official wording is). smile

"Lights taped up" I've had (even though they weren't)

Still means nothing - if you untaped them or fitted them the next day then your bike would be quite legal at night.

Sounds like he was out and his lights broke.

If that's the case what do you want him to do light a candle

Older bikes don't have lights on the front, which I think is a recipe for disaster, but that's their call. Why are you upset about it thought? If the rider was going faster than you, then just move over and let them past.

Perhaps stop and call a recovery service/mate etc? idea

Under what circumstances would it be acceptable to ride a motorbike at night with no lights?

Thanks! I couldn't be bothered to write the full description.
