Cracked windscreen at time of delivery
Discussion
Probably been asked before
Car i recently purchased from recognised independent specialist dealer- has crack in windscreen top to bottom approx 3 cm from edge of frame on passenger side - so mostly in black part of screen and running along same lower edge maybe 20cm
Car came with 12 months mot done the day before - should it of passed ? And is it actually now illegal to drive ?
Fan doesn't work - is this an mot issue ? was supposed to of had a/c recharge - at a loss as to how guy checked / did this with no working fan ?
A few other issues with stuff not working but not so serious . But left thinking if PDI done or if thinking I just wouldn't notice ??
- So much for buying from a specialist dealer

A car will fail it's MOT if
The windscreen is chipped or cracked. The maximum damage size is 10mm in the drivers’ line of vision (a vertical strip 290mm wide centred on the steering wheel), 40mm elsewhere in the rest of the area swept by the wiper blades.
So the damage you've described wouldn't mean an MOT failure

Is any part of the crack within the swept area of the wipers ? If it's entirely outside, then it wouldn't be a reason for MOT rejection.
What fan doesn't work - the cooling fan or the internal blower ? Entirely moot as neither are MOT testable items.
You seem to be focussing on MOT failure items as grounds for twisting the dealer's arm into undertaking repair works. Have you actually spoken to the dealer about the items that are wrong ? Perhaps given the chance (and a conciliatory approach), they'd be perfectly amendable to resolving any issues with zero fuss.

Had a few cars in for MOT and have had to have the MOT aborted due to overheating with no radiator cooling fan working. What fan doesn't work - the cooling fan or the internal blower ? Entirely moot as neither are MOT testable items.

Might not be a issue with some cars but most will cause the fan to come on during the MOT.
Yes dealer has said will put it right and look at other areas but asking me to wait a month before bringing back - suggested I claim off my insurance and pay the XS - dealer was fully aware of the crack before hand
It's destroying pleasure of buying and ownership knowing paid not a small amount of money ( nearly 35k) for it and obvious overlooked faults everytime think about it and having to wait a month - and fact I maybe shouldn't be driving it or risk points and a fine is leaving me -well - not very happy day by day

He's only asking you to wait so any third party warranty can be used to pay for any faults. (Therefore if the warranty company turns you down he can say it's not his problem) If I was you I'd be going down there now to get it sorted. If I was spending that amount of money on a vehicle I'd expect it not only to be perfect, but the dealer to rectify any immediate faults with it.It's destroying pleasure of buying and ownership knowing paid not a small amount of money ( nearly 35k) for it and obvious overlooked faults everytime think about it and having to wait a month - and fact I maybe shouldn't be driving it or risk points and a fine is leaving me -well - not very happy day by day
Not an MOT failure but for £35K the tight b
d wont fix a couple of things for a few hundred quid!
When I bought my 7k forester a couple of years ago it had a few chips in the screen and a rotted exhaust and I told dealer I'd pay sticker price once those and a few other bits were done, and he did indeed do that before I handed bulk of money over

OK may aswell get the rest off my chest
1 cracked windscreen - seal also failed at bottom
2 mirror switch not working
3 a/c and fan not working - was told a/c was regassed - ? how did they check it with no working fan ??
4 brakes - don't feel right -
5 gear knob loose tightens but then is upside down
6 boot lid had new struts but one side not set properly
7 speakers wired wrong way round
8 1 key - pretty sure I asked if it had 2 and no immobiliser reset fobs - but told was thatch cat 1 alarm immobiliser
9 battery - ok - but voltage varies depending on if central locked or not
couple of other bits too think who ever did the PDI needs to do a bit of explaining
yes - I am feeling a fool
but lesson for all is just because is a specialist don't trust them despite when they say this type of car is very specialist and should only trust and buy one from a specialist dealer.

What car is it?
It might be red.It must be something old and exotic. But looks like the OP is going to keep us on tenter hooks re what it is. If it's a 35 year old Ferrari (Mondial ?) I'm surprised the snag list is so shortshort....
