Hi All, we run a small fleet of cars and small minibuses at work, it has been suggested we have our own recovery truck for when we have breakdowns along with transporting our own vehicles from one spot to another. If we buy a 6.5ton truck are we exempt from cpc and o licences etc as we are either recovery or transporting our own vehicles? PS vehicles not for sale, used for our business. I have tried looking this up but end up more confused! Anyone please??

If it's only for occasional use I wouldn't bother . Contact the local recovery firm and have a chat with them about contracted work .
The rules and regs on recovery trucks are quite complex , if you do really want one contact the nearest traffic office and have a chat with them or ask for a visit . They are quite approachable as they love to encourage people to do things the correct way .
If it needs to run to O licence regs it will cost you £3-5k per year before fuel ,wages and parts .

Thank you. We are currently using recovery firms and a car movement company around once a week. We have had issues with damage and property going missing hence doing it ourselves!
