Hi guys,

We are currently looking to buy a new car buying outright cash no finance etc, and wanted to know does the registered keeper need to have a car licence? Reason I'm asking is wife has currently got a ban from driving (don't ask) but want to put her name as the registered keeper.

I will tax and insure the car, is this possible with her being the registered keeper? Also the car in question has tax until next year February, would this continue or would need to get new tax?

Any info would be appreciated.

You don't need to hold a licence to be named on the V5.

I've known many people without a licence (me included) who've been named on the V5 of cars, without an issue. Your licence status is NOT checked by the DVLA when processing the new keeper part of the V5. They really don't care - the V5 states the keeper's name, not the driver's name (that's handled by insurance).

There's a bit more information on husband/wife car ownership here:
