Yesterday evening (Wednesday 6th September around 18:30) i was doing the return leg of my fortnightly commute to/from West Lancs - Suffolk when on the opposite carriageway (Eastbound) on the A14 around Cambridge i came across a huge police convoy.

The convoy consisted of around 20+ Police motorcycles & 2 Police X5's, all were travelling in a fairly tight formation but were not displaying blues/twos & i could see no other vehicle being accompanied in the convoy which lead to my surprise as clearly were not escorting royals or diplomats.

I guess they could have been on their way to/from an event or accompanied duty, but the fact they were in tight formation but without blues/twos just struck me as odd.

Any ideas or knowledge as to this unusual sight yesterday evening.

Doughnut run. They're under strict orders not to use blues'n'twos for those wink

On a serious note - no idea. I've seen lots of convoys from Manchester to Liverpool which are nearly always prisoner escorts.

I guess that makes sense & the Tour is in Newmarket tomorrow which isn't far from Cambridge. Also i'd assume with so many Royals etc. in/around Cambridgeshire, perhaps plenty of Police Motorcycles are posted in the surrounding areas for Royal duties.

The convoy was heading Eastbound so certainly in the right direction.

Looked mighty impressive as never seen so many Police motorcycles at the same time.

I was at the start of a stage last year, and the police motorcycle s were lined up while they had a t break. There were forces from all over the country it was interesting to see the different insignia on the side

For the big events they do draw them from all over the country.
Kent only has 13 for the whole county .

They came past me on the opposite carriageway on the A1 at about 5pm as I travelled north, I did wonder what they were going and why, made for quite a sight.
