Hi
I hope I am posting this in the correct section.

I have a van which I use daily and have used my NCD (10 years). I think I have it insured with a van specific company.

I am thinking very seriously about getting a weekend toy (a Boxster).

How would be the best way to insure this?

Would I simply take out a new and separate policy but have zero years NCD?

Many thanks in advance for any advice given

I am not sure it would be worth cancelling the van on the current policy as I have paid upfront for the year with circa 7 months remaining?

Open to options though

Call a few brokers directly. Some companies will honour your no-claims or part of it on a different policy.

Ok will do, thanks.

I just got a quote online with and without my NCD and the quote is under half with the NCD so it is definitely worth looking into.

Thanks

Directline mirrored 5 years NCD on the second car based on having 2 separate policies, both with them.

When I took my van policy out they gave me full no claims discount as I had it on my car already. The car policy is still running alongside.
But it is only with regards to the premium, I still had to build up no-claims on the van as per normal with regards to all the other benefits.

Policies not with the same provider in my case

I would go with them over the naval one any day of the week even if it cost a bit more.
Especially when you read the full T&Cs (which surprisingly few people bother to do).

Got a second car inbound for early October & asked NFU Mutual the same question about NCD mirroring or multi car & they said the following.

They do neither of those so i was about to get a monk on, however what they did confirm is the max NCB they apply is 67%, but for a 2nd car they'd apply a new policy discount, existing customer discount & a couple of other incentives which would equal 65% discount so in essence they would virtually match what i have on car number 1 with car number 2.

After my experience with LV when I crashed last year I can echo this - they were brilliant. Paid out in full and all the finance and penalties settled in 7 days from the crash.

You get what you pay for.

I'd avoid Admiral at all costs.

I use Chris Knott, all 3 of our cars are covered through them.

My "main" NCB is on my 530d, I got a brand new policy on my Z, with a heft discount, and I'm building up an NCB on that car too, so ultimately I can take one car, or the other, elsewhere without worrying about losing my NCB

Hi
Thanks for all the advice.

I called a couple insurance companies and was told I'd have to start with zero years NCD on the Boxster.

I then realised that the Boxster im getting could be deemed as a modern classic as it's an early one.

One call to Footman James and it's all sorted.

Under £400 a year, fully comp, £50 excess, 5000 miles a year smile

They don't use NCD

Cheers
