Wife parked in a council owned, but privately run, car park. One of these ones where you have to enter your registration into the machine to get a ticket, she managed to make a mistake and swapped the last two letters of the plate around (so ACB, rather than ABC).

Parking people acknowledge that she paid but still insist that the PCN is valid as she didn't abide by the terms correctly. POPLA side with the parking company (Civil Enforcement Ltd) - "On this occasion the warden has issued a PCN as the appellant failed to comply with the terms offered".

This seems utterly ridiculous as we've clearly paid and we're just being penalised for a typing error. Any thoughts as to what we can do next? Is there anything else we can do? My wife has already offered to reimburse for cost of DVLA application and writing of the letter (£5 or so)

Have you got a Blue Badge?

Tell them that one of you. Is dyslexic and ask them to make allowances for that fact

Or even that you'd forgotten your glasses and couldn't read the terms or key pad clearly.

What does DNA stand for :-)

I know I'll get criticised for suggesting it but, given it's a private parking firm, I'd keep the correspondence from them and now avoid any further contact.

Yes I read that but am confused by the DVLA fee reimbursement offer.

Logic being that the parking company would have incurred some costs in getting the owner details from the DVLA etc, that was all.

Seems like madness to me.

Your wife ignored the ticket and waited for the letter to the registered keeper?

No, the car park is a camera controlled one, so the PCN came through the post

The Major point. Is that she paid the fee and fixed the ticket to the screen, is that correct?

Did a human person write out an infringement notice?

Thanks for the confirmation.

At what point did she make the £5 offer, before or after the appeal?

No human was involved, the £5 offer was as part of the POPLA comments

No, if it is like the one I got caught at there is no physical ticket.

I emailed explained that I had reversed two letters by mistake and they cancelled it without fuss. They could see on their database that a ticket had been bought and, if it came to it, I could use the receipt to prove that I had paid what I should have should I need my day in court.

I'm amazed that they are not treating you exactly the same way!

She paid the fee and displayed the ticket - which we still have. But no, it was an automatically issued ticket from the cameras.
