Thought it may be of interest. Disclaimer speeding is bad and I do not agree with it but people mess up, hence this thread.

Must be genuine ones you know of not fairy tale pub talk, thought it may be of interest for people who have messed up.

Not interested in reason for speeding, didn't know it was a 30 signs moved etc.

Just the plain fact of speed in what zone and fine :

83 in a 60 just before the new laws 3 points 100 quid

55 in a 30 6 points £866 fine

Especially when there is only one carriageway e.g. three lanes.

I don't remember the exact speed over the 60 limit but I was in a 2CV and it was downhill, BiB was driving an Allegro . Did have a job to keep a straight face when he said he struggled to keep up!

New laws?

83/60 is usually a £100 fixed penalty and 3 points, so that’s no surprise.

It is possible, but I doubt that you were fined £866 for 55/30. More likely, fine + costs + surcharge = £866. 710 + 85 + 71 = 866?

If you don’t accept a COFP and court proceedings are instituted then the fine is income based. Your fine depends on your income.

Try it uphill in a 100e with vacuum wipers in pouring rain.

90 in a 60 limit. “Can’t issue fixed penalty as too fast, have to report for Court action bla bla bla”.

Never heard a thing. smile

Lesson learned tho, it slowed me down.

I.e. a fixed penalty rather than a fine.

Do people really not understand this?

110mph in a 70mph limit @ 1am (A46 in Warwickshire) - £100 fine and 3 points.

Had a sit in the back of the patrol car and a friendly chat with the two Officers who caught Me, and having passed the attitude test, they decided to report Me for 94mph instead of 110mph so I would only get a fixed penalty fine instead of a possible ban:

Previous to that:

108mph on a motorway (70mph limit) - Let off with a warning.
111mph on a motorway (70mph limit) - Let off with a warning (2am Christmas day - The Officer said it was a Christmas present from Thames Valley Police)

Sometimes it pays to be nice, polite, respectful and contrite when caught for speeding! wink

62 in a 60 ... 3pts/£100 (though took SAC).

Vehicle was restricted to 50, they didn't know the rules (so effectively 62 in a 50).
