A slight delay in posting as I saw this about a week and a bit ago (Tuesday 3rd October).

Joining the M6 just North of Blackburn and heading Southbound I saw a very odd unmarked police convoy headed Northbound. All were unmarked except for the clear blue lights flashing on all of them and consisted of the following:
2 x Black RS4 Avants
1 x What looked like an ML63
4-5 x white Ford transit mini busses with all windows blacked out
3 x 4 wheel 10 ton lorries, all white and with hazmat signs on the sides.

Just wondered if anyone knows what these units are as it was a very large convoy and I wasn't aware the police had anything like the first three??

Searching Google has pulled up little info on what these vehicles could be.

One possibility is that it was a ministry of defence shipment of some description

Did any of the lorries have Convoy Flags flying?

No, no convoy flags and from what I could see of drivers and passengers all in plain clothes.

Was there a fire appliance in the convoy?

No, no fire appliance, just what was listed before, all with blues on in lane 3. Didn't see anything else after them.

There is a regular run between Aldermaston and the Roya Navy base on the Clyde, but I don't think that is the usual mix of vehicles in that, and they would be more lik likely to be in lane one at a more stethan speed

From the makeup of the convoy the lorries were at the back with no other convoy vehicles behind them so I would not imagine these were containing the purpose of the convoy.
Traffic was still flowing in the other two lanes and the convoy vehicles were all going (though hard to judge from the opposite carriageway), fast in lane 3. All the high end stuff was at the front and it was basically all in speed order (RS4s at the front, then ML63, Vans and finally lorries) so I would assume it's some sort of rapid response unit??

Not sure where the tritium for the hydrogen bombs is made these days. In the past it was picked up from chapelcross in a similar way.
