Hi,

Not a complaint necessarily but more wondering, is it legal to run a taxi firm from a residential address?

There is a house opposite ours which appears to have upto 5 taxis registered to them, parking on the street various numbers at a time.

My complaint is not them parking as it is a public highway etc, but more the legality behind it. If it is legal then fair enough, but because of the amount of cars parking all over the residential road I wanted to ask.

If running a business from home has a negative impact on the locality it can run into planning problems.

If the parking causes a problem on your street and the neighbour won't/can't do anything about it I would contact the council planning enforcement team.

If they are licensed taxis or minicab then you could complain to the Council if they are plated.

It's maybe worth spending the £3 or whatever it costs to get a copy of their deeds - there are quite often covenants saying they must not do anything to cause a nuisance to their neighbours.

They will need an Operators Licence from the local licensing authority and there might be a restriction on numbers before they need to get planning permission. That's how it used to be for me when I ran my business.

Be worth checking with your LA.
