Ongoing situation.
I bank with TSB. Being a student, and with all the ensuing financial situations, I’m naturally toeing the line with finances. I actually don’t think I’ve been over spending, I’ve just had nowhere near the promised sum from the bank of mum and dad yet...
Not the issue, just some background. I actually am due to be paid £24 by an app that basically acts as a friend to friend payment system. But, TSB allows £10 unplanned overdraft without fees. I have not spent over this amount. However, my mobile’s OEM’s store (who shall currently remain nameless) managed to charge me twice for an app. The result is, I’ve been pushed over the £10 limit by £3.06. I’m due to be reimbursed £4.49. However, I’m now liable to be paying £5 a day in overdraft fees. What do I do?

You go to a branch, you speak to a person, you explain the situation and you hope they can do something about it.

Borrow a tenner from someone and pay it in, then pay them back when you have it. Then next time you’re that close to your overdraft limit don’t buy anything at all unless it’s with cleared cash that you’re holding in your hand, because sometimes things go wrong with other forms of payment.

Obviously a good first port of call, I’m worried that they might be “not our problem”. I’ve only been into branch once before due to the nature of uni.
Should this be the case, would I have a case against the app provider or the App Store?

I may be being simplistic but, you already pushed yourself into overdraft territory when you bought one app. The mistake of actually getting two put you over the unplanned limit. The bank has already done you a favour giving you a little buffer in case of difficulty so it wouldn’t be surprising if they said tough. But for a one-off for a student I bet they wouldn’t, if you’re face to face. A thousand years ago I used to do it all too often ... but that was for food, not fking apps laugh

Mostly it was food, a touch of drink hehe and a small outlay on apps that came back to bite. As I’ve mentioned, I’m getting £24 soon, so I was budgeting accordingly. Also, lots of society membership fees... small one off payments.

Mr Micawber's famous, and oft-quoted, recipe for happiness:

"Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen [pounds] nineteen [shillings] and six [pence], result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery."

I do have an arrangement with TBOMAD that hasn’t yet got into full swing. Obviously, all the clubbing and membership fees in freshers’.... and an extension lead. Also, I had a bit of a mess up with my mobile data. Miraculously, I’m actually on budget with a bit of food in the fridge, although it doesn’t feel like it.

I have to somewhat agree. It is concerning.

Borrow a crisp, clean £20 off a mate. Go in, pay it in and explain the situation. If it's your first offence and you pay it off right there and then they'll almost always cancel the charge. Go back a week later, upgrade to a student account and take the maximum overdraft they'll offer to avoid this happening again and promise you won't be a prat with it.

So, without that double-charged app purchase cock-up, you'd have been a whole £1.43 inside that UNPLANNED overdraft limit?

Go on, what was the app?

I actually have a student account, but although I applied for I think £500 when I created the account, I'm not sure whether it was processed or denied... it's £0. As for asking about what the app was, a gentleman never tells. getmecoat

If I was at Oxford I would be asking for the biggest fk off overdraft they do, immediately.

OK, I put £100 on my student account as overdraft, all online. I don't see any charges on there, so disaster averted.
Thanks guys
