Finding status of someone injured in an RTA
Discussion
Hi, whilst heading back from the pub yesterday I came across a police cordon where paramedics were giving CPR in the middle of the road to a motorcyclist that had collided with a car at the junction, had to stay there a couple of minutes before being let through (crash was literally less than a minutes walk down my road and no other routes available) whilst they struggled to keep him alive and it's been playing on my mind since.
Checked the local news this morning and there's no mention of the accident (living in London local news encompasses so much) so wondered where I could find out if the guy survived or not?
Thanks.

I would also like to know this.
Back in summer me and a friend pulled over to help a lady who’d come off her bike. First responder was there but my friend was one too. Both of us jumped in and helped until the ambulance got there. Road was shut by Police and air ambulance called.
We left after she’d been taken away and the Police allowed us to move our cars, used them to block the road for safety but I’ve no idea what her status was. I like to think she survived but not sure.
I phoned 101 and spoke to the relevant force but they wouldn’t help me.

When an elderly neighbour fell over outside my drive earlier this year, I ended up administering CPR.
After the First Responders arrived (which seemed like hours!) and took over, I contacted the lady's sister and son to come over.
They didn't know that it was me that tried (sadly in vain) to keep the old dear alive - other neighbours knew, as they had seen the events.
It wasn't until the funeral that the rest of the family found out - the Police and First Responders only let on that it was a "passer by"
For those of you that do First Aid courses for work, never expecting to have to deal with a serious situation, I can tell you that the aftermath isn't pleasant.
You are told that CPR is a last resort, and it generally doesn't work - it doesn't make it any easier for the First Aider to have someone (especially someone that you know, and speak to most days) die underneath you.
I feel comfort in that I was able to try and do something, rather than stand by and do nothing, but I still feel utterly, utterly, gutted that I didn't manage to revive her.

Thanks for all the advice, heard via a neighbour late this afternoon that sadly the motorcyclist passed away

http://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/15655621.Motorcy...For Alwynmike. Like yourself I've done several first aid courses during my working life, practiced on resusi Annie etc. But thankfully never needed to do anything more than put a plaster or two on people.
Last year however, (without giving too much info away) I saw an elderly gent just go straight down with a major heart attack, I dashed over but was beaten to it by an off duty paramedic and his girl friend who was also an off duty nurse, they worked like trojans on this gent doing CPR, and breaths, an ambulance that was passing stopped to assist, the air ambulance also arrived, everyone was still working on him, I know that it passed over 20 minutes of them working on him with CPR, shocks, and drugs. finally they'd got him back with a weak pulse & breathing to a degree before loading him into the air ambulance. Luckily because we knew the organisation that he belonged to, we did get several updates, he had stents fitted and recovered well, some 6 months later he was back as a special guest at the next event very grateful to those that brought him back from death..
During the time that the crews were working on him, they were brilliant!- and heroes!
We assisted by holding blankets to give privacy and stop photographs, moving equipment around etc,
I learnt a lot more by watching the professionals on this, than I'd ever learnt on the first aid courses. CPR only works for certain types of heart attacks, when doing the compressions, you have to press so much harder than we did in practice, don't stop, keep going no matter what.
So Alwynmike, That it didn't work for you, still be thankful that you were there to try, it probably was one of those heart attacks that CPR wouldn't work with.
Top marks for trying.

Saw one of my customers get hit by a van a few months back, I was first on scene and while ultimately useless I did phone the ambulance and update them over the phone as much as I could.
The police told me they'd let me know what happened but they didnt contact me, tried ringing but got nowhere. A colleague told me the guy hadn't made it then a few weeks later I see him at work! The feeling of relief was amazing, he had a cast on his leg, a couple of crutches and a few less teeth but it he was alive AND up and about.
Hopefully you can find out what happened for sure, it's not nice not knowing.

I found two men laying in the street. I parked up and went to have a look, one who moaning the other was silent. I first checked on the silent lad who had blood running out of his ear, this was not good. He was laying on his back so I placed him in the recovery position and made him as comfortable as I could.
The other guy was still moaning and groaning. I called the police and within minutes they arrived with an ambulance following shortly. I waited around and went back up to the police station to give a statement. What had happened was the guy moaning on the floor had mugged and assaulted the lad I'd put into the recovery position,as he ran off he tripped on the curb and knocked himself out,he had the other guys wallet in his pocket.
I never knew what happened to the guy who was assaulted, I'd possibly saved his life and the police had given my details to his parents but I heard nothing at all.
