"tampered" tablet warranty refusal, any help?
Discussion
18 month old tablet, supplied new by <big korean tech giant who consider themselves apple rivals> own UK website, £400 odd device.
Dies a death, zilch, google suggests power connectors are known dodgy. whatever, 24 month warranty so into the brands own wembley repair centre it goes. Who call me a day later to inform me that the device has "internal missing screws", as it has been "tampered with" they refuse to repair and will want paying an inspection fee before I can collect it (part of the T&C they make you sign before they'll look at it.)
Now this device hasn't been opened by anyone in the time I've had it. Either the repair store are lying or the brand themselves must have originally fobbed me off with a return or something.
contact retail helpline, who after a long conversation and a lot of repeating myself they're going to escalate it to their relations whatever team and I'll hear in 3-5 days. I'm not that hopeful - it seems they have me over a barrel somewhat? My word against theirs? I cant even get it back to try somewhere else without apparently having to pay them for refusing to honour the warranty I've paid for! And that will take queuing up for an hour (no lie) again in their terrible service store, which I'm kind of over.

I bought a washing machine from them that failed after 10 months as it kept shorting. They said it was a problem with my electrics and I was to get an electrical engineers report (at my expense) before they could consider fixing it. I refused and kept on at them to send the engineer.
In addition. I had forwarded the electronic receipt which they said they couldn't read it and it had to be printed off and scanned in again and then attached. I tried pointing out they were a technology company but they were adamant they could not read forwarded emails. Then when we got through that hurdle they said it was invalid as the vendors address wasn't on it. So that took a couple of phone calls to persuade them to read the bottom of the eReceipt.
I ended up in tears several times over this. It took 2 weeks before they eventually came out and it was a furred up heating element which was a quick replace.
A year later and the machine has broken down again but we are paying for a repairer to come out as I cannot face dealing with them again.

Come on now, you can't blame a manufacturer for limescale, this really is your responsibility. I've fixed many washing machines, not mine, and this is nearly always the problem, especially if it has taken out the mains RCD. Washing machines really do live longer with Calgon. In addition. if its from sungsam then I had a tablet 3 months and its stopped switching on with 24mth warranty you could wipe your bottom with.
7-8inch basic £140 quid one for my daughter. They quoted me £160 to repair with a free 12 mth warranty! Which was more than their website was selling them for!
Sent it to their repair centre and they said it has been misused and refused to do any warranty repair. Sent it back and the screen was cracked by them or in transit.
tried to make a fuss threaten them with legal and pressure them on social media but always you voided the warranty but wouldn't explain what we had done!
There engineer alledged are tablet has been misused and that was the final decision.
When I got legal they used the 'your contract is with the retailer not us' card.
Retailer wound't help as the unit was damaged when sungsam posted it back in a feeble cardboard envelope.
Ipads never skip a beat and stick with them!

wow, so lying and cheating is standard biz then? Didn't think they were "all that" but thought they tried to pitch themselves a bit above some of their local competitors.
Stupid really, this is a premium device, and thus likely to be in a household like ours where the turnover of tech is quite considerable - if they'd bodged it back together to make it go another 12 months and out of warrenty then I'd be buying a spangly new one... now instead none of it will ever wear this brand again, muppets.

Amazing how some companies never make mistakes, forget to put screws in etc.Back in 1996 I bought a new BMW 323i, at the first service the dealer called me to tell me that it had the 'wrong' model headlight on one side and asked why I had swapped it? and did I want them to fit the correct type at my cost? because, of course there was no way BMW would have built it that way and even if they had the dealer would have picked it up before selling it.
The car was absolutely as they had sold it to me (unless someone broke into my garage and swapped it in the night?) but they wouldn't even entertain the idea that they could have made a mistake.
Took a lot of to-ing and fro-ing until they agreed to replace it - I would never even have known if they hadn't mentioned it.
As for Apple, I had an iphone 4s which burnt out the wifi after an ios update, they denied the ios was liable but they sent me a new one for the next day and the courier took back the old which was excellent service, but when the replacement phone did the same at around a month after 1yr from buying the first phone - the 'new' phone that had failed was only a few months old, they didn't want to know - so they're all s

I don’t think that is fit for purpose. And I was treated absolutely shoddily by them

To be honest it is very hard / impossible for a software update to cause a hardware burnout. More likely to have been chance and a false correlation to the iOS update.Back in 1996 I bought a new BMW 323i, at the first service the dealer called me to tell me that it had the 'wrong' model headlight on one side and asked why I had swapped it? and did I want them to fit the correct type at my cost? because, of course there was no way BMW would have built it that way and even if they had the dealer would have picked it up before selling it.
