Not me, but a friends wife. After research she is convinced that she'll be due 6 points, and apparently now she believes a fine of a weeks wage. I've not heard that one before.

I think more likely she'll be looking at 4 points. Anyone any thoughts?

No it won't a £100/3 point FPN will almost certainly be offered.

I'm not sure you understand how the Fixed Penalty system works - they can be offered for upto 49mph in a 30mph limit.

Well you can either say you have an income of zero which they will take as unreliable and proceed on £440 per week or you can be honest and if you really are on virtually nothing a figure of £120 a week is used. If there are grounds to believe you earn more than £440 a week they will come up with a figure over that which they believe is appropriate and you would have to appeal and provide evidence.

They wouldnt believe you. They would look at all of your income streams (pensions, savings interest etc) and even if you were a "kept man" then would come up with a figure appropriate to your lifestyle.

In which case then they would look at your savings and make an assumption based on that. In the past this has been as high as your total savings being equivalent to a years salary so 52k in the bank = bag of sand a week potential salary and fine based on that. If you ever end up in the situation you would have to appeal whatever they set.
