Last night driving home, taking an unusual route via Holloway road, (London), i’m approaching a traffic light junction. It’s two lanes and I’m in the right hand lane, that I realise is a right hand turn only. The traffic lights for straight on are green and the lights for turning right are red. I indicate to change lanes and change lanes to go straight ahead on the junction, when I notice the double flash of a red light camera.

Since I was going straight and lights for straight ahead were green, is there anything that I could argue in my defence should I be presented with a fine and points.

Thank you

definately wasnt speeding, there were too many cars in the lane to be speeding, I had to be going slow to be able to merge into the left lane...

Had you started to change lanes before you crossed the stop line, or were you in the junction before changing lanes?
50% chance your indicator shows up on the photos.

So you were in the RH lane (marked for RH turn only, red RH turn light)... but went through the red light and went straight on?

I don't think you've got a get-out based on the fact you ignored two signs instead of just one, y'know.

it was confusing because I saw the straight ahead was green which is what I wished to do, and indicated to change lanes, I initiated my lane change as I hit the junction, so was half anf half... half my car was in the straight ahead and half my car was in the rh lane. well that is what it felt like any how....

if it does come to anything, hopefully I get to see the photo and that should reveal the reality of the situation...

No, he was half in the left hand lane and crossed the line on green.

Well the camera flashed so you are guilty unless you can prove you're innocent

The RH lane must have had a stop line and you crossed it on red. I believe that is the offence no matter which way you went afterwards.

You mean you can’t drive over a stop line when the lights are red if you indicate...well who’d-a-thought!

My old man had something similar at a junction in Chessington a few years ago OP. In the time since he’d driven through it before they’d changed the markings from both lanes straight on to straight on and right turn only, plus they installed the red light cameras for each lane

He went over it half way across the other lane as he realised his mistake, never heard anything. He may have just been lucky though

If you had got into the correct lane by reading the road ahead we would not have to read this boring rubbish.
With a bit of luck FPN and Points / Fine on its way already.

And if only you'd learnt how to post on a forum we wouldn't be reading this rubbish twice

Yeah! - Because every single road in the country is so well sign posted that no one can make a mistake and end up in the wrong lane, ever! rolleyes

The OP's made a mistake and has come on here to ask for some advice - Isn't that what this forum is supposed to be about? confused

Perhaps you could advise all of us on here as to the sort of exciting posts that should be posted on here, rather than "boring rubbish" like this, asking for advice?

I would say that rather than "boring rubbish", it will certainly make me think twice before pulling across to pass a cyclist, or to make my way round a pothole. Guess I'll just stop in lane 1 and wait for the right turn green signal to come on. Wonder what the reaction of the traffic behind will be?

OP please update the thread if anything happens.

looking at the picture you were in a dedicated turn right lane with a stop line and stop light - yes I can see what you are saying about going straight on but I think you will still get the ticket as you crossed the stop line for your dedicated lane on red.

If only we were all as perfect as SVTRick, who it seems, has never ended up in the wrong lane in their lifetime!
