In amongst the Xmas cards today was a speeding ticket, 48 in a 30, def was me, thought it was a 40 but it’s def a 30.
What’s the likely fine etc? Trying to pacify the wife, I currently have a clean licence!
Cheers.
You want agtlaw or similar and this needs to be in SP&L instead of GG. I have reported to mods on your behalf to have the thread moved there. What’s the likely fine etc? Trying to pacify the wife, I currently have a clean licence!

Edited to add: I'm no expert, but a cursory internet research suggests it'll be a £100 fixed penalty and 3 points for 48 in a 30, no chance of a speed awareness course being offered as it's too fast for that.
If it went to court it'd have been 5/6 points and likely a larger fine - based on income, legally up to £1000 but something along the lines of £500-750 more likely. Court would have been likely at 50+mph though.
Based on the scenario (thinking you were in a 30, actually doing 48, speedo likely somewhere over 50mph in order for the car to be doing 48mph) - bad luck, especially at this time of year. Could happen to anyone.

With no other factors in play, and if your circs are exactly as described, once you’ve filled in the form you’ll get an offer of a 100 fine and the 3 points. All forces have signed up to the NPCC guidelines, so whilst you are definitely over the threshold for a speed awareness course you are 1mph (!!!) within the guidelines for the fine.
50 mph and above and it’s a no option court date...

Just pay the fine and take the points. You really don’t have a defence, sadly.
Admitting in court to being tired whilst driving, following a week of nights, miles away, thought it was a 40, tends to smack of driving without due care and attention to me........new can of worms altogether.

Why do people start a thread, get replies, and then go back and delete their original post?
I can understand doing it if the original post made the OP look like a complete knob, or was incriminating in some way, but in a situation such as this thread, there seems no point in deleting the original post!
(Thanks CraigyMc for quoting the post straight away, so it can't simply vanish, leaving the rest of us with no idea what the original issue was

Ah, just spotted there are two posts on the exact same subject from the OP: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
My question still stands though - Why do people come on here, start a thread and then delete their original post?

Thanks for all the replies.
I’d incorrectly posted in the wrong forum and then posted in the correct forum, but the mods moved the original post to the correct forum, so I tried to delete to save having 2 posts saying exactly the same thing.
Secondly, I had no intention of going to court and pleading my case if a FIxed penalty will do. Just as an aside, what would you suggest I do after working a night shift? I live in rugby but work in London and catch the train from Milton Keynes, get the train to Milton Keynes and sleep in the car till I’m less tired? I was weary and driving on autopilot.

If your working pattern leaves you too tired to pay due care and attention to your driving, then saying "But what else can I do?" isn't really good enough, is it? Move house, change jobs, change shifts, get the train from Euston all the way to Rugby...?GREGA said:
Trains from Rugby don’t run at the time I need to get me into work!
And Bizzarly enough, even though I live 10mins from rugby station, it’s normally quicker to get to London driving the 30miles to MK! The joys of public transport, especially first thing in the morning.
Looks like you need to make some changes in your life, then. And Bizzarly enough, even though I live 10mins from rugby station, it’s normally quicker to get to London driving the 30miles to MK! The joys of public transport, especially first thing in the morning.

Or sleep on the train. Churchill won a war on short cat-naps.

Pious people who know nothing about me or my life, nice little trolls sitting sadly on there own at Xmas with nothing else to do but judge people by there own low sad standards.
I came on here to get a bit of advice, I know I was speeding, I put my hands up and said that, but still sad little people dish out there kitchen sink advice from there grotty sad sofas.
I was late finishing work due to some overrunning operational incidents, we don’t all have nice cosy 9-5 jobs, some of us like to give back to society.
My wife has terminal cancer, multiple myeloma, a painful form of cancer, it affects the bones and red blood cells, it makes your bones brittle and full of holes.
The day concerned was her last set of treatment before Xmas, it’s always busy at the chemo ward before Xmas, before some smart ass asks why do they give treatment, it’s to destroy the bone marrow before an SCT next year, which hopefully will add a couple more years to her life. By the time I eventually got to MK, it was now the rush hour, so progress was slow, when I got to Daventry I shot through an industrial estate to save a bit of time, i thought it was 40, but it was 30, guilty as charged.
For further info please contact DR Jayne Parker consultant haematologist Northampton general, she will confirm all this, as well as the fact we were late for the appointment, and when your Ill and it pain, you don’t want to spend any longer in a hospital ward than you have too.
Thank you to all the kind people who gave me actual, much appreciated advice, to all the other sanctimonious saints, look at your own lives.
