A very recent spate of thefts of tools from vans in the locality has got me thinking about how legitimate it would be to setup a bait van to catch the culprits ? Plenty of well lit cul-de-sacs in the area to trap the thieves in smile

It’s a massive problem in Construction. Scrotes have worked out that the new Transit rear doors will just fold in half if they give them a good tug.

Had a gang of cladders get their van emptied just before Christmas.

Certainly is a problem, that, JCBs and cash machines.

Vans are a real target, especially for unsubtle ways of breaking in to them. Police seem almost powerless to prevent or catch them, so I can understand the temptation to adopt a DIY approach.

If you plan to try and catch them at it, have your story ready when the police start asking questions. I wasn't prepared for the legal difficulties I had to face when I was arrested for chinning a car thief in the middle of the night, and given what I went through for the sake of smacking a scumbag about, I'd think it through a lot more carefully if I needed to do it again. I was lucky not to get prison apparently, so if you can't arrange to have someone say you were " somewhere else " at the time you catch them, or you can't make sure it looks like they've attacked you and you've been forced to defend yourself, don't put yourself through it.

It's been a few years since my experience, I suspect the authorities nowadays would come down harder on a current similar situation than they did with me back then. If you catch them, all the best, I fking hate thieves.

Not necessarily. How many honest people have picked up a 2nd hand bargain without really thinking about where it came from?

Not many. Anybody buying commercial quality tools at bargain prices knows they are most likely nicked, and because there is a market for them they will continue to be nicked.

Hmm. Broken legs. Left naked in a field somewhere in the country?

Oh wait.

Maybe it's still there but years back there used to be a stall in Chesterfield market square on Tuesdays, non market day, that sold second hand power tools, mowers, chain saws, fishing tackle and what have you. Obviously nicked stuff was among it in my opinion, eg nearly new Honda mower at less than half price. Presumably they hadn't found a customer at the Sunday car boot tea leaf central.

I don't frequent these places but if I did, I would take a blue lit torch, that way you may see some DNA marking which would indicate the potential for it being a stolen article.

well first up you could give Charlie a proper gun not that tiny air pistol he's holding in that pic

" and the fact that I've got "Desert Eagle point five O" written on the side of mine, should precipitate your balls into shrinking, along with your presence. Now... **** off."
