Dealer sold us a dodgy car - what can we do?
Discussion
Hey guys,
In October my other half bought a 16 plate Corsa from a main Vauxhall dealer which was promised to have a service and fresh MOT before we picked it up. Fast forward a month and the car started having slight wheel wobble which turned out to be incorrectly balanced wheels. Next week the rear drums started squeaking so we had to book it in to get them stripped down and cleaned. It turned out that as well as the rear drums, the front pads were completely worn to the point of them being ineffective. They fixed these issues for free but I was seriously unimpressed.
Last week the car threw up a warning that the ESC had failed which has come up multiple times and now the car has started juddering occasionally when at low RPM. Called the dealer and they don't think it will be covered under warranty and that we will have to pay for it ourselves.
The car has had nothing but issues and they have clearly lied about servicing and MOTing the car. From a legal stand point, is there anything we can do? We're looking at getting rid of it now as we're sick of it.

Tell them all work will be completed under warranty and you would like the car back asap. No arguments and faffing about. 16 plate makes it 18-24 month old so they are clearly trying it on suggesting its not covered. 16 plate - surely still under manufacturers warranty as only 2 years old.
Warranty won't cover out-of-balance wheels or worn brakes.OP, how did they lie to you about the service history and the MOT it doesn't yet need?
Thanks for the replies guys.
The car was sold to us by a family friend hence why he said he got it serviced before picking it up and telling us he doesn't think the warranty will cover the ESC issue.
We don't know about the previous owner or owners of the car and he seems to avoid the question whenever we ask it. For some reason he has completely removed my girlfriend from his life - deleted on all social media and won't return messages.

The previous owners should be listed on the logbook, which you should have. (V5C)The car was sold to us by a family friend hence why he said he got it serviced before picking it up and telling us he doesn't think the warranty will cover the ESC issue.

Who's betting on the car never having had any sort of service or maintenance recorded therefore warranty invalid?
To wear the brakes out in 2 years is some going, unless its been used as some sort of office pool car and no ones give a hoot.
When we first saw the car it had some minor dents and kerbing on the wheels so it's pretty safe to say it wasn't looked after very well. To wear the brakes out in 2 years is some going, unless its been used as some sort of office pool car and no ones give a hoot.

We have the logbook but as her dad is moving house and she is moving into my house we have no idea where it is at the moment so we can't check. You "friend" sounds a bit dodgy to me. Something's going on.
