My wife was involved in an accident yesterday evening. Thankfully she is fine but her car appears to be a write off.

She was driving her own car on her insurance policy.

She is also a named driver on my insurance policy. Do I have an obligation to notify my insurer of the accident now. Or is it only disclosable at renewal time?

Apologies if this has posted before, but surprisingly a Google search has failed to return anything matching these circumstances.

No need to notify until your next renewal.

Thanks for that. I suspected and hoped that would be the case but wasn't sure.

Read your policy. Some providers require you to notify at the time, some state only notify and renewal. It will be in your policy wording.

Makes no difference. ABI have very clear guidelines on this. Insurers only have to be notified at renewal. You can notify them sooner, but they can't act on it until the next renewal.

It's an annual policy, so no need to disclose it until renewal.

After all the insurer won't tell you how much they plan to increase your premium until renewal is approaching!
