Traffic sign regulation
Discussion
Hi all,
Does anyone know whether there is any regulation regarding the distance between a prohibition sign (for example no right turn, etc) and the road where the prohibition takes place?
I have recently fallen foul of this and I do not recall seeing any signs near the junction concerned. Is there a fixed distance, or can the sign merely be "near by?"
Thanks
Tim

Of interest, what junction, wouldn't mind having a google. The answer I would think be quite close. Waiting in anticipation for the answer.Does anyone know whether there is any regulation regarding the distance between a prohibition sign (for example no right turn, etc) and the road where the prohibition takes place?

What happened was that I had to go home from work via a route that I don't use, due to grid lock in the area. I went down a one way street ( Clements road I believe) to get onto High Street North, London E6.
At the end of the one way, there was a sign saying no left turn. I wanted to turn right anyway, but I found myself on a pedestrianised road.
I did not see any warning signs nearby, and when I was in the one way street, I wouldn't have been able to turn around anyway. That was the reason for my question.

Unless I am looking at the wrong map, at the end of Clements Road it does show a "No Left Turn" as you said, if you turn left there is a no entry sign and it's a pedestrian zone with vehicle access one way only, if you turn right, your on the high street, so confused, you did say you wanted to turn right anyway, so did you turn right, or left?At the end of the one way, there was a sign saying no left turn. I'm not sure from your description though. Maybe Caledon Road (see below)
There a 3 separate pedestrianised sections of High St North. All of them are to the south (left) of Clements Road.
The restricted times according the signs on Google Maps are 10.00am to 6pm - https://goo.gl/maps/PSWJM3PznJB2
Therefore to find yourself in one of them you would have to come down either Lloyd Road, Kempton Road, or Caledon Road.
If the restrictions are in force your escape routes would be: Thorpe Road, Skeffington Road, and Caulfield Road respectively.
The linking sections of High St North have no prohibition to vehicular traffic.
If you did mean Clements Road, the part of High St North which you turned into is not pedestrianised.
It's part of the A117 which runs from the Woolwich Ferry to Aldersbrook (Wanstead Flats) -.
