Parked car scraped by foreign lorry which drove off...
Discussion
Hi
About two months ago I used this forum to help me buy my first car...a low mileage Mazda2, so once again I would like to say thanks for the help I received on here.
Two days ago I came home from work to find out that a large lorry had drove down our narrow road and unfortunately it had scraped a couple of cars in the process , one of these was my Mazda2...
I have a couple of witnesses who saw it happen while I was at work, I have a picture of the back of the lorry that someone has taken and I have CCTV from next door showing a lorry driver getting out, checking his own lorry was okay and then driving off....
Only issue is the only number plate I can see looks foreign...
So is there any way I can track this driver down across Europe? Or will I have to fork out for this myself to fix the car dent?

Yes it's made me feel like I should have listened to Boris re Brexit...
My excess is about £500 as it was the one of the criteria to help me get cheaper insurance...should I report this to my insurer or will this make my premiums go up in the future?
Scrape is across wing mirror and two doors so probably about £500-700 to fix

Have a read, as stated though on foreign trailers if an artic the number plate will/may be different from the unit.

Wow, this could be the opener for another Brexit thread!

More likely that the usual crew of PHers will turn up, defending the lorry driver saying he was right to do so as he was doing his job and the inconsiderate car drivers were preventing him from doing so...so they got what they deserved and the driver did the right thing by driving off.
Meanwhile in the real world, I guess the option is to either suck it up and move on or try and track the lorry down. Have you spoken to the other owner (s) to see what they are doing? Also have you spoken to the police to see if they will get involved, the driver has left the scene of an accident and not left any details, but you have video and photographs....
Good luck op sorry to see that another example of modern society kicks in with people having to pay for the mistakes of others...

Even if the reg number on the trailer could be traced (doubtful) unlike our system that is only the trailer reg , drive units are registered separately.
The advice if dealing with foreign articulated vehicles is get the full details of everything. Trailer , drive unit , driver , company etc .
I fear the OP will have to stump up for the repairs as even if all could be traced it would be a very lengthy process to get a good outcome .

Can't read the blue strip, but it's very likely to be LV, Latvia - the plate's the right format for one of their trailer plates.
Same as for any other hit-and-run where you know the plate of the vehicle... Just hand it to your insurer. They'll be able to find out who it's registered to, and who insures it.
If a normal-width vehicle can't be driven down the street without scraping parked cars, though... Is there a weight limit or size limit in place on the road?

The local council have just marked up new bays in advance of the stupid new permit system they're implementing near where I work (and which none of the residents want). They've made the bays so ridiculously narrow that even with my wheels almost touching the kerb it's slightly over the edge of the bay.
Separately they've also painted the bays too long - this means that residents aren't able to turn into/out of their driveways if cars are parked up to the ends of the bays. The council are apparently having to come back and re-paint the bays...
Nice little earner for them though - £100/yr for a resident permit (per car, not sure if they're limiting the number per household) and as a business we're now having to pay £350/yr per car as our office doesn't have allocated parking. Speaking to some of the residents they're livid as there's never been any issue with space locally, it's been foisted upon them by the council against the overwhelming feedback that it's not wanted.

Id honestly just go through your own insurance and provide them with all the evidence that it was not your fault.
It's their job to them claim back the money from the 3rd parties insurance company.
You shouldn't be expected to pay your excess as the fault was down to another driver, so if they try it on don't back down.

You're paying the excess and dinging your NCB unless and until the other driver's insurance covers all your insurer's costs in full. It's their job to them claim back the money from the 3rd parties insurance company.
