Very inspiring and a noble goal. I felt like supporting it myself.

Yet I have worked in many parts of the world where for lack of a better word life is cheap. You are responsible for your safety.

It does not matter if you are responsible for your safety by avoiding running over someone or speeding. Or you are on a bike or walking and you got flattened because you had no lights and were wearing camouflage. It’s stil person responsiblility and accountability.

Perhaps they should go to other countries and try to lower their death toll? That would save more lives for the same outlay.

Please don't support this, they'll probably bring all speed limits down to 20mph and put speed cameras everywhere.

Same can apply even if you are under the speed limit. You can't always control the consequences of many things in life.

They're a bit fond of Randomly Capitalising Letters on that website. Always the sign of Crazy People.

Catchy name but not an achievable. target. Short of restricting traffic to 15mph or less there will always be road deaths. Nothing in life is risk free. In 1890 London had 144 road deaths presumably almost all from horse and carriage.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/19th-century_London#...

For the benefits cars bring they are extremely safe. Pedestrian deaths are 35 per billion Km. One every 28 million miles. Car occupants far safer again.

Of course there is room for improvement. I'd start by getting rid of the excuses for not banning drivers who get 12 points. I've spent nearly 40 years driving without adhering to speed limits. Never had a ticket. There is a time an place. Busy urban streets no, empty A roads yes.
Going to work at 0630 with nobody else on the road maybe I don't drive dead on 30mph.

Anyone who gets caught 4 times in three years needs to look at himself not bleat about how much they need their licence.

More traffic cops dealing with bad driving like the female I saw texting on the M8 yesterday, middle lane hogging etc.

Draconian speed limits on our safe roads are not the answer. Dealing with bad driving is. But let's not forget our roads are about the safest in the world. Roughly speaking the USA with 5 times our population has 15 times more RTA deaths - over 30'00 per year. We are 3 times safer per person.

Several hundred people die in the UK every year falling down stairs.
This is an outrage. I will start a petition:
- Remove all unnecessary stairs
- Safety warning at the tops and bottoms of all staircases.
- Safety nets and crash padding to be added
- Hard hats and HiViz to be worn if attempting more than 2 floors.

Together we can have zero stairs deaths.

Haha make everything sea level or flat. Stairs are so dangerous!

Is there a more sensible campaign to reduce deaths and accidents on the road?

ETA. Not Sarcasm, genuine question, because anyone who feels that speed isn't the sole and primary cause of incidents should get behind it.

No, I don't know how these people find the time to campaign, I don't even know if they have a full time job. I can only find time to put a comment on pistonheads and moan about it. I still say these safety freaks are dull individuals and should go back to not sticking their fingers in what others do. They also don't seem to have a grasp of reality.

Please tell me that on at least one occasion on your commute to shoot location you exceeded the speed limit.

It will restore my faith in people.

Interestingly that's about the same as the current yearly figure.

That is just odd, if they had said you can never completely control the consequences of a collision at any speed that would have made more sense.

In their head it's only the +1 mph that matters. -1 mph is magically much much safer.

I wasn't speeding as I always arrive 45mins early in the morning, but driving home at dawn having been out for 15hrs night after night definitely wouldn't have been the safest, if there had been an emergency I think a speeder would have had better reactions.

Most of the cars in the ads are 4/5 door so that they can shoot the backseat scenes but the yellow Leon was a 3 door, Director asked me to take all the rear doors off on the drivers sides, no problem but what about the Leon (cue FCK FCK FCK and kicking the side of the car repeatedly) so I offer to break out the reciprocating saw and remove a quarter of the fairly new car and that's exactly what happened smile

The one where the black focus goes through the fence was some of the most precise driving I've seen, stunt guys parked the cars up in crash position chalked it up on the ground and then in one take floored it, sliding seemingly out of control to where they should slide and collided exactly on the chalk lines o the road. I was amazed that what looked very out of control was so much in control.

The irony of paying someone money to do a stunt (I.e. Potentially dangerous albeit safety modifications) to try and stop people from doing something dangerous or promoting safety hehe

The guy overtaking the horse seemed to do it on a bend and quite slowly. Don't overtake on a bend perhaps? Pay more attention to road etc, what has speed go to do with that? Head on collision with both cars travelling at 30/40 on a 60 mph road can still end very very bad -_-

Also that it is possible to be completely in control while driving in a non-standard or HC manner, clearly they were under the speed limit or it would have been impossible to control the outcome.
