Okay, so my car was stolen last night. I'd give you a guess as to what it was but there'd be no point (67 plate Golf R). Thing is, I had some relatively valuble things in it - not least of all a £300 odd car seat for the wee one. Do I claim this on my home insurance or car insurance. I would've phoned the insurance company but they're not open on Sunday and I want to get some idea in my head.

What does your policy say?

How are we supposed to know?

I'd hope someone might've had experience.

My policy wording is ambiguous, probably deliberately so.

Wordings vary dramatically; if you're with one of the cheap online insurers you may find that cover for any contents is less generous than others.
But the wording is not likely to be ambiguous; these things are very carefully worded. Do you have a link to an on-line policy that we can check for you?

Typically contents are covered up to £200 or so otherwise everyone would claim for their gold plated ipads etc everytime their car was stolen, you can buy further cover normally to cover electronics/tools etc.

Post up who your insurer is and roughly what year yotuntook your policy out in and it’ll be easy to answer your question.

Simplistically speaking you would claim on your car insurance, you will have a limit on this, usually around £300-£500, but the car seat at be covered separately.

Home insurance will only cover you if you have goods away from the home cover, but may well exclude anything in your car.

Sorry to hear that OP. frown

My approach would be to ask the insurer of the car, and if you don't have enough cover on "Personal Effects" call your household insurer to see if you have cover for "Personal Possessions" away from the home - then go from there.

Hope you get it sorted. thumbup
