Not me, but a guy from Facebook (local town):

Facebook dude said:
Can all the local people help me with something.

I have a drive and have 4 cars parked on it.

There is my s max which is fully legal and then a mondeo st that is currently on SORN as I need to sort a couple of bits on it.

Then there’s a fiesta which is my partners for when she starts driving and an old cavalier.

They are all in very good condition except the cavalier which has rear bumper removed for some welding that’s needed.

So the problem started around a year ago when my neighbour thought he could verbally abuse me while I was in my own front garden. This resulted in him learning that he should keep his mouth shut and me on a tag!!!!!!!

Since then my lovely neighbours have been ringing the council about me selling cars from the property. This is not true and have countless exchanges with the council over this.

There is nothing they can prove that there is trading from Home as the same cars have been on my drive for months. So if I was a dealer then I’m pretty crap at it.

So now the council are threatening to put an order stating that I can not keep cars on my drive. Which yes is unbelievable!!!!

If this happened they would be parked on the road and mess the road up for other people’s cars. So I don’t want to piss the neighbours off that are ok. It seems to be 1 ring leader a guy in his 60-70s. Yes I know he obviously has to much time on his hands.

So any help or advice from people that have had similar problems would be good as I need to take this back to the council again but want to know the legalities around this.

As I thought my drive park what I want as long as it ain’t a pile of st.....
I severely doubt any council can do this - what say any knowledgeable peeps on here?

To add, it's his own property...

Then the council can do nothing about him having cars on his drive. ( DVLA is different matter sorn/CIE etc )

And he needs to control his anger if he is fighting with pensioners.

See what the google streetmap imagery says for hi street - if it shows the chav, ooops, bloke has the same cars on it then just go to the council and say so.

Unfortunately, there are people out there that dont like to see other peoples property messy as its an 'eyesore' and think they have the right to complain.

To be clear, I don't know the guy (or where he lives), and I certainly wouldn't condone violence towards a neighbour (unless in self defence)!

It was merely a clarification of what their (council's) power is.

If they're correctly taxed/mot'd/insured/sorned, I see no issue - regardless of someone's opinion of it being an eyesore or not. Some neighbours are aholes (thankfully, mine are lovely!) when other's don't conform to their expected 'norms'! eg "You're parked outside my house etc"...

It does appear that the chap has a really poor relationship with his neighbours but in his defence he may well be suffering from some obnoxious neighbours who feel the need to stick their noses in his business. It could well be that the old biddies think that the chap's cars make their precious street look downmarket and that he doesn't fit in.

I recall a similar case with a bloke who had a few old cars sat in his front garden an neighbours complained to the council that it made the house/street look bad so he put up a huge fence, they complained about that , then he planted a huge hedge which led to further complaints. WTF is that all about.

They're probably looking at it from a planning perspective. Not many houses in a built up area are built with a drive for 4 or more cars. I'd guess that at least part of his 'drive' was originally garden.

Quite, there are some snobbish dheads frequenting this site. It used to be a site for petrolheads regardless of the budget.

Or, even if they could afford it, choose to put their money into different things.

If events are as described, it does sound like the guy has found himself on the wrong side of someone who has the time and means to be quite vindictive.

Council set ups, committees etc. are a perfect way to exercise petty grievances: they're difficult to fight from the outside and it sounds like the neighbour has a lot better connections.

but getting a tag has lost this guy a load of.moral high ground. A cheap cctv might help him in future confrontations.

He could start parking his legal cars on the road, either side of the neighbour's drive, and make it clear he's done so on the instruction of the council.

However, neighbours like that tend not to back way from escalation, and I would worry they're just letting the revenge dish get nice and cold.

I'm certainly finding it hard to take at face value. There is undoubtedly a GOOD chunk more to this than is being told.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was a drop kerb thing. An injunction or ASBO or whatever is probably possible, but would require a lot more back story, I'd suspect.

Possibly...

As far as I'm aware, you don't need planning to park on your drive/garden etc, regardless of number of cars, providing you have access and a dropped kerb.

I feel like this part has some details missing which may provide a clue as to why the neighbour is behaving how he is:

So the problem started around a year ago when my neighbour thought he could verbally abuse me while I was in my own front garden. This resulted in him learning that he should keep his mouth shut and me on a tag!!!!!!!

Not hard to read between the lines there. Would a tag mean the line between nice, simple assault and ABH was likely crossed...?

Either way, my sympathies are with the neighbour on what we know at the moment...

The chap by his own admission lamped his neighbour and ended up with a tag on his ankle.

The chances of any of this being legit are slim to none. It is much more likely he is the problem.
