Collision in works car.
Discussion
One of the supervisor's/manager recently had an accident in a local country lane- from what we can gather, he drove into the back of a car.
This doesn't surprise anyone as he does tailgate ( having been a nervous passenger on occasions!), along with a rather scatty/distracted demeanour!
As the car he was driving is a pool car for the local authority and so works insurance, will the claim affect his own personal driving record as regards to insurance? Should he let his own personal car insurers know he's been involved in an at fault collision/claim even though its on the work insurance? I know if he received points for say careless driving ( not likely but just for example) that would obviously go on his licence but what about the insurance implications for his own personal car insurance as regards a claim on works insurance??

Its not rocket science.
'Give us details of any incidents, accidents or claims involving a vehicle that you've had in the last five years. Please include all incidents, including where you weren't deemed to be at fault, where you were driving a different vehicle, and incidents that haven't yet been settled.'

Yes he should declare the accident come renewal time for his personal vehicles, Whether he does or not is a different matter. Insurers ask along the lines of ‘have you had any accidents or claims in the last 5 years’ to which the correct answer would be yes.
I declared an accident in a work vehicle when I renewed as I knew I was nominated as the driver so my details would flag up if I said no, that and the fact I’m honest enough to not risk grief should I need to claim again.

Exactly - That's the standard line from all of the insurance companies.'Give us details of any incidents, accidents or claims involving a vehicle that you've had in the last five years. Please include all incidents, including where you weren't deemed to be at fault, where you were driving a different vehicle, and incidents that haven't yet been settled.'

You have to declare any incidents, accidents and claims made, regardless of who was deemed to be at fault, and regardless of the vehicle being driven at the time, so that they can fully assess the risk you represent on the road, and adjust your insurance costs accordingly.

Why are you concerned about him letting his insurers know or not This doesn't surprise anyone as he does tailgate ( having been a nervous passenger on occasions!), along with a rather scatty/distracted demeanour!

Yes.
I used to have a company car and they insisted that every ding and scratch was repaired, regardless of how it was caused or who was at fault. Caused me some issues when I left there and bought my own car.
Ours was the same but the repairs were all paid for by the company - they didn't go through insurance and anyway the excess was £1000. I never dreamt of reporting them to my own insurers (I owned and insured the car my wife used).I used to have a company car and they insisted that every ding and scratch was repaired, regardless of how it was caused or who was at fault. When I opted out I was given a letter from the company insurer that said I'd never had a claim or incident.

I drive the bigger work vans everyday, so its useful to know if I or others have any prangs in future
