My car was stuck, whilst parked by a Luton style truck.
I have cctv footage and the 3rd party insurer did start to decline the claim until I produced the cctv at which point they are willing to deal without prejudice under rights of subrogation.

I’ve had my first quote and it’s £6k, plus hire car and detailing (it was detailed and ceramic coated 2weeks before impact).

My question and concern is that it is a 2month old car, with 1600 miles... can I request a replacement car or do I have to have it repaired?
The bodyshop has quoted for rear qtr panel cut and weld, rear passenger door replacement. These activities also require full interior strip, inc headlingings.

I can’t see how my new car, will ever be the same again. Can a bodyshop really rebuild a car as well as a factory?

It’s a VW Golf GTI, regd Jan 12th 2018.

Thoughts?

You won't get a new car.

Will be interested to know if they pay for the detailing. It's not something I can recall having to deal with. Please let us know how it goes.

Why wouldn’t they pay for detailing and ceramic coat?
I paid for my paint to be ceramic coated (new car, so treated it well) so why should I be left in a position any different?

As for your “no new car” comment... will a repaired car, requiring major cut and weld ever be as good as the new car I bought? Never mind the trim removal? How many squeaks will that introduce?

If it was my fault... I might understand... but given it’s the fault of the other driver... why should I be left in a worse position than I was in?

I didn't say they wouldn't pay for it. I just said I'd be interested to know if they did.

You won't get a new car. That's just the way it is.

Edit why don't you get your insurer to deal with it?

I was trying to keep the costs down, for everyone’s benefit.

Experience? You work in insurance, or experience from a past claim of your own?

I work in insurance.

they'll return to you a nearly new golf, which is what you own now.

A detail and a ceramic coating is worth approx 50 quid extra on the second hand market should you have chosen to sell the car the day before the accident.

Whether they repair or replace will be solely down to cost. Usually, if the total cost is more than 60% of the value of the car, that's when they start to consider their options.

Surely it’s about what it costs to put right, not what it’s worth on a resale?
Find me a ceramic coat for £50....

Likewise, the repairs now make my car worth less should I ever choose to sell to someone with a paint gauge.

Sorry, just feeling incredibly pissed off with the whole thing. Less than 2months old and through no fault of my own will have a car that has been cut, welded and painted. The guy even had the gall to tell his insurance the footage was poor quality dash cam.... even they were surprised when decent quality cctv showed him hitting my car and driving off.

If they gave you a new car you'd be in a better position than you were before the accident. They aren't under any obligation to do that.

Really? How so?
Less 2months old!

Sure, if it was over 12months old I’d get it.

I will definitely be in a worse position after the impact, that’s for sure.

It would be nice to see the prat in the Luton prosecuted for something as he's left the scene of an accident and tried to deny it afterwards.
Why are people such s?

I did report to police, but they are “snowed under” with recent snow crashes to look at.

I have had bodyshops put cars back together better than when they left the factory. It's all really up to how good the bodyshop is to be honest.

Because at 2 months old & 1600 miles it isn't worth the same as a brand new one.

If the work is done to a high standard then I would say it will only affect residual value in the short term and only if a buyer is aware. By three years old I doubt it will matter.
