I got pulled over this morning for speeding, not Traffic Police- had checks run on me/my car etc and got a talking to. Then they let me go on my way- no ticket, and no mention of fines etc.

Am I correct in thinking that that will be the matter closed and I wont expect a NIP in the post? (The police ladies were polite and courteous, as was I, and though it was 0430 with clear roads, it was a fair pull)

Not too sure, but no doubt you'll find out in the coming week or two if you have!

Thanks for the replies- they didn't mention anything about prosecution, just to watch my speed in the future. I'm in Scotland if that makes any difference.

You'll be fine. There is a small chance of you getting something in the post, but I very much doubt it.

Matter closed.

If there was to be anything they'd either have issued with a FPN or notified you that they would report you to be considered for prosecution (in which case there would be up to 6 months for them to lay a case before the court [may differ in Scotland however]).

I don't get this 'non traffic police' thing. You are actually far more likely to be caught speeding by local neighborhood officers than traffic police. At least in my neck of the woods you are.

Did they mention how fast you were travelling, or did you cough to it in the car?

Either way, without a speed recording device a prosecution or FPN even based on the opinion of two officers isn't happening.

Every car has a speed recording device........a speedo.

That's interesting. In Northumbria non-traffic/firearms crews very rarely bother with plain speeding. aholes get pulled and checked for going too fast but they'd not get a ticket.

Why not?
That's what the law says is the minimum required...and they can use their speedo in any case.

Yes, I understand that. My local force, as mentioned in reply to Hantsrat, just don't do speeding tickets unless they're in a car with an approved device, which local patrol cars don't have.

Wrong. Happens quite often. If it was on a motorway you don't even need a 2nd officers opinion.

As I said in my earlier reply, not up here. And the Northumbria area only has 10ish miles of motorway so that situation rarely arises.

She said I was doing close to 50, I didn't agree or disagree- just politely gave my details, explained I was on my way to the gym, apologised for taking up their time and went on my way when they said I could.

It is possible that Northumbria have that as a policy. I don't know if they do or not.
They don't have to have it as a policy though because they don't need to have an approved device to evidence speed, any speed measuring device or even none when there are 2 witnesses will do and that is what Hantsrat and I are saying.

You'll probably find it's just lack of knowledge or they can't be bothered rather than not being able to by the force.

Is that a force policy for Northumbria then?
