Applying for a settlement visa for my wife to join me here (from Asia). She has to return home for it to be filed and so is in Asia.

We have a child together but she can only come to the UK with me sponsoring her. On the application it asks if she has dependants and I'm a little unsure here as there is no doubt she is not in charge of our kid's welfare right now (he is here with me and going to school) but of course she is the mother.

Boy is British citizen, not Asian (Korean).

I am thinking that the answer is no, she has no dependants.

Right?

The boy is her son that she presumably has legal rights over. He's a dependant.

If she is the child's mother she has a dependant.

I take it you are the father, your child is your dependant as the child is the dependant of your wife.

Your wife can also be your dependant.

I remember years ago my passport had a stamp saying that I was a dependant of a member of the British Armed Forces and this was used for unfettered entry to any country my dad happened to be serving in.

So yes her child, your child is a dependant of both you and your wife.
