I have a very weird question ; Any advise is welcome
I was driving down this national speed limit road at around 80-90 as it was very empty and all the sudden I see a blue light and a siren come on from the other side of the road .
I look in my mirror and he was turning around .
I just sweeped into some back roads and didn't see him again.

Yes it was stupid of me to be driving so fast .
The question is , would the "cop" be able to prosecute me for driving and get a ticket ( such as a speed camera ticket) or can that be not valid ? I don't understand why he didn't chase me . Also can't the ticket be dismissed with information such as it wasn't me in the car ( someone stole my reg for example or something)

In the UK?
Depends on how many policemen were in the car, type of road, whether they actually measured your speed with a type approved device.
Chances are you'll hear nothing more, but you won't know for a couple of weeks.

Unlikely, but you were speeding and have admitted this now on an internet forum.

I think you will be fine, but perjury a much more serious offence than a minor speeding offence so be very careful if you do decide to fight a ticket, in the off chance that one arrives.

UK I doubt it , USA absolutely, police cars are fitted with forward facing radar and regularly cross the central reservation on motorways to chase you down for a ticket , they don’t seem to bother with Armco , just have a big grass ditch between lanes ! I couldn’t believe my eyes when it happend to me and he (policeman) almost got stuck ! Lucky for me my old paper uk driving licence confused him enough to give up on a ticket !!

In the U.K. the police can use VASCAR in the opposing direction mode but that would be unusual if they have not stoppped you.
They do have video recording too but again it would be unusual to get a ticket sent afterwards but not impossible.
I don’t think the OP will hear anything from what he described.

Yes it did happen in the UK , I'm just confused why I wasn't chased . Maybe it was more of a warning to slow down I'm not sure ? Hopefully no ticket will come in the mail soon

Could be nothing at all to do with you perhaps?

My first thought too.

Maybe just coincidence and turning to attend an emergency elsewhere.

Failing to stop was what I was threatened with when they caught up with me when I did similar (max penalty unlimited fine &/or 6 months inside). After being nice to the officer I took the 3 points and £60 fine on offer.

Maybe they were happy to give you a warning/frightener. As they might not have been able to prove your speed they couldn't be bothered chasing you to give a finger wagging?

Not too long ago I was doing 60-65mph on a 50 section of the M8 at night. As I was about to pass cars in the inside lane I ignored headlights coming up behind me intending to pull in once past the cars in front. Next thing blue lights are flashing on the car behind me and a forward facing sign on the police car is flashing "50" at me.

I thought "bugger" , signaled left, and moved into the nearside lane ready to pull over and stop. Then they put their lights off and flew past me. Who knows why? Not behind me long enough to get a speed? Going for their break at nearby traffic HQ? Going somewhere else?

As for "Also can't the ticket be dismissed with information such as it wasn't me in the car ( someone stole my reg for example or something)"

Not unless you want to turn a traffic offence worst case fine and points into att to pervert the course of justice and risk prison.

Presumably they had you on video speeding or had a radar detector the other side to confirm your speed?

Like any other Vascar, they measure the target cars time between two points and the Police cars distance between the same two points, practically never happens as its pretty hard, but not impossible.

Failing to stop is actually a non-endorsable offence and it's not an imprisonable offence.

It doesn't. He would like you to believe it does though

Travelling up the A65 at a rate of knots. I saw him and, instinctively and without thinking too much about the possible consequences, braked hard and took a left turn onto a narrow B road and started thinking about what to do next. It was a narrow road with passing places so not many options. Decided to take the consequences as the chances of escape were limited. He caught me up and I wound my way back to the main road which was the first place where we could stop without blocking any traffic.

After sitting me in his car his opening gambit was "Why didn't you stop - think carefully before you answer because failing to stop is an arrestable offence" Whether that's the case or not I don't know but I didn't want to spend an afternoon in Skipton nick so I decided that honesty and being nice to him was the best option and that's how I played it. He was a nice enough guy, showed me the video evidence and ended up asking me about the car - (I offered to take him for a spin!). He acknowledged my observation was good as I'd started braking as soon as I saw him and he knocked a few mph off my speed so I got a ticket for 1 mph less than the next higher sanction would be. I thought it a pretty fair result.

Yeah guys I think I'll be fine but the coincidence of him turning he's light on and turning around was unreal and I got real scared . Im guessing if anything was to come it's gonna be in the next 14 days ?
