How long should you wait for a policeman?

Was he wrong to move it? Will he get in trouble? Was he wrong to involve the police?
No for all of them. He can't put his life on hold for it. If it was something more serious maybe (but they would be there sooner). Did the right thing by phoning them. Although its slim of finding who did it, you never know. Did he take any photos? Might be worth phoning them so they are aware so they don't come over anyway.

Yeah, I get that, so does he now. Just don't understand why they couldn't have told him that when he phoned them instead of stringing him along all weekend. Tit for tat, wasting his time in return for him wasting theirs? Or too scared to tell a member of the public that his crime wasn't important enough to do anything about?
There’s a completely disconnect between the phone operators and the front line police. An anecdote from recently. A friend had his garage broken into, door ripped out completely, and two MX bikes stolen. The police had no interest in coming down, despite the phone operator even giving him the officer hat his case was assigned to.
It turns out the assigned officer was a triage queue and they’d get round to it eventually. They never did.
This is despite my friend having the details of who stole the bikes, reg no, vehicle make and model, phone number and few other details. He did some fairly simple investigation work to get these details, alongside being a well known person in local
MX circles so others were keen to help him.
One bike is now back with him, the other will hopefully return soon too.
The police stilll haven’t made contact 8 weeks after the event.
My neighbour had her garage broken into on friday morning, between 06:40 and 07:00 as her garage door wasn't open when I walked out the close with the dog but was when I walked back in. Her bike was taken
Copper was around by 9:30, but then it turns out around 20 garages were done that night, all bikes stolen...
Makes me wonder if the two local scumbags who engaged on a nicking spree a couple of years ago are back out of nick.
Last time people had sat navs nicked on a thursday night and they caught them when they burgled a hotel room on the saturday night. They nicked all the wedding gifts from the bride and grooms room but were caught on cctv. Coppers went around and their houses were an alladins cave of nicked stuff.
I did suggest to the copper he may like to follow that line of enquiry...

I’m suprised they were even interested. I had a laptop stolen out of the back of my car last year. I read the papers so I fully understood it wasn’t a 999.
Phoned 101 and was on hold for a good 10 mins. Got through to someone who listened, then said, right, you had a laptop, now you don’t. There’s nothing we can do so I’m going to close the case, here’s a crime number. He then advised if I had the seriel number And receipt I should take it to local cash converters and the like. That way they apparently wouldn’t buy it.
Also last year a friend had his car smashed into and looked through at a train station car park. He phoned the police who point blank refused to get involved as apparently its the transport police responsible. Transport police didn’t seem to think it was their problem either. It took him over a week and many phone calls and getting the complaints commission people involved before anyone would log it as a crime.

Phone up and complain.
If someone's told him the car will be examined they should have called to say when they will be there. Thefts from vehicles are low on the list for the CSI's though so an assault, rape, murder, burglary etc will naturally push it down the list.... BUT, the list should still be managed and someone should have called him to rearrange/explain.
Seriously, complain.
ETA - if it's a bobby you're waiting for then the same as above applies.
