Hi all

Recently I've seen a few 'brokers' advertising on Instagram. They claim to sell fully legit policy's and allow you to pay to the insurers direct. Has anyone had any experiences with these types of companies? Something doesn't seem to add up

Scam.

The policies tend to not exist or be garbage. Was in the news last month I think.

Probably ghost insurance brokers, they take your money, but there is no policy.

lots of instances of someone buying a motor trade policy, knocking up some fake docs and adding the car to the MID.

Appears as insured when of course it isn't.

As mentioned, they are ghost brokers.

They will manipulate your details eg make you older, held your licence longer etc etc. They will charge you a fee and let you pay the insurer direct.

The insurance is worthless.

On a different forum I use, a poster has recently fallen foul of a ghost broker. They have been presented with a large bill for their accident, had their insurance cancelled which makes it very very difficult to arrange any type of insurance (forever) and they have also been placed on a fraud list which banks and loan companies etc all check.

Many of the insurers the ghost brokers use only deal directly with the public so it would not be possible (legitimately) for a "broker" to place business with them.

Please warn your friends

Check the FCA Register https://register.fca.org.uk/

This will tell you if they are authorised.
