Likely done for speeding on M25 - any point in appealing?
Discussion
Hi all
I'm really annoyed because I've just driven down from Scotland to London and stuck (almost) relilgiously to the speed limit (plus 2 or 3 mph) on cruise the whole way. I get on to M25 and the speed limit is 50. I see from the upcoming gantry that NSL applies again so I accelerate to 70. I then notice too late that the very next gantry (not far down the road) takes the speed limit back down to 50 again. I brake reasonably hard to get down to speed but I think I was c56-57 mph passing the gantry. There were speed camera flashes, although I don't know if they apply to me or to another car (I can't remember if there were faster cars around me).
Anyway, I'm probably clutching at straws, but if I get NIP is there any point in appealing on the basis of hte quick change in speed limits? I have it on dashcam. I already have 6 points (completely my fault) but at least 3 are due to expire very shortly.
I'm guessing the responses will be along the lines of it's my own fault, and I accept that. But thought I'd ask anyway!
Cheers

Unfortunately changing speed limits from one gantry to the next is very common on the M25. They don't manage them at all well. I think 6 or 7 different limits in short proximity is my record.
If you set out to observe the limits indicated there isn't a problem. Just follow the instructions in the big red circles.Vipers said:

Post the footage.
I thought there was a delay between the limit changing and enforcement starting?
There must be, you are 3 metres at 70 from a gantry showing NSL and it changes to 50, can't be zapped surely.I thought there was a delay between the limit changing and enforcement starting?
Guess you'll have a nervous 14 day wait OP.

You probably shouldn't have admitted to the previous 6 points. You've signed your own death warrant.
And that makes a difference because........OP, if you were showing 56 or 57 it's probably a true 53/54 so vanishingly unlikely to result in a NIP forget it and carry on, the flashes were probably for someone else if it was busy.

It makes a difference because it feeds all the self-righteous sanctimonious preachers exactly what they want.OP, if you were showing 56 or 57 it's probably a true 53/54 so vanishingly unlikely to result in a NIP forget it and carry on, the flashes were probably for someone else if it was busy.
I’m sure I read somewhere that if everyone fought their speeding tickets at every stage, by pleading not guilty to each one and making them pursue everything through the court system rather than rolling over and being thankful of a fixed penalty the whole “speeding tax” collection service would grind to a halt.
Of course I’m not advising this particular course of action, I presume the b
ds probably try to discourage this anyway by threatening to add more points (like the old ‘failing to provide the driver details’ wheeze when the max penalty used to be three points, happy days before it was upped to six i.e. what did you have to lose) but certainly something to bear in mind...

You presume right, it would cost you a minimum of a grand and probably extra points to take a spurious NG plea to court. Minimum £620 costs before you even start with the fineOf course I’m not advising this particular course of action, I presume the b
