Hi,

I'm just after a bit of legal advice. I booked a 7 a side pitch for a bit of a lads & dads kickabout on a Thursday night. When I booked it, they guy said if I booked over 10 consecutive weeks, I wouldn't have to pay VAT so I said I'd do that. He also said I had no cancellation rights which I took to mean I would have to pay for all 10 no matter if we were there or not. This was fine and I went ahead and booked it.

I've been struggling for numbers of late so have decided to knock it on the head after end of April. I've informed the company that I will pay until the end of April and he has now informed me that it is a block booking of 40 weeks and I will have to pay for all 40 weeks.......!!!!

I have a copy of the T&Cs here if anyone could just cast en eye over them and let me know how to proceed? Seems absolutely crazy that i'll be forced to pay for a service I'm not receiving?

Any help or advice gratefully received.

So what does it say about your right to cancel? do they have anything that shows you booked for 40 weeks?

How many weeks have you used the pitch for?

The electronic booking facility shows every Thursday for the whole year 8-9pm but I assumed that was just to keep the slot. Seems excessive to tie someone in to a years contract with no break clause for a 7 a side pitch!

Did you not see it in the contract and then think about asking?

Maybe consider negotiation and say you will cover the next X weeks or until they get a new booking and chalk it up to not reading the contract.

The confusion comes about because there are lots of different types of bookings, obviously I wasn't; aware which "type" mine was. Yes I should have asked but at no point did I ever think they would try and hold me to a full year!

Quick explanation.

- You booked the pitch for 10 consecutive weeks to get a 20% discount.
- You have now used the pitch 16 - 17 times.
- They are claiming you booked for 40 weeks.

Did you pay upfront for the first 10 weeks, and what was said when that expired and you carried on with the booking for the next 6 - 7 weeks, have you been paying weekly, have you been using the facility for free, or did you extend the booking by a further 10 weeks?

I pay monthly, in arrears. Fully paid up. I knew we had every week booked after the end of the 10 weeks but I wasn't aware I would be passing the booking on to my kids as part of my estate!

If it was me I would be asking them to prove that I (you) booked it for 40 weeks

Sorry op but how do you expect any meaningful help when you haven’t shown us the terms you apparently agreed or indeed any meaningful evidence?
