BT digging up footpath
Discussion
Behind our house there is a council path that runs between the gardens, a couple of guys have turned up and started cutting it up on a Sunday. They say they are working for BT with an immediate start under section 50.
Just seems a bit odd that a BT line to 1 house is so essential to be dug up on a Sunday and they have no id only a printed bit of paper. They aren’t from BT open reach, I presume outside contractors with no kind of health and safety in place at all.
Not too bothered just thought it was a bit strange?

Are you Health & Safety trained then for street works? If not how do you know H & S is not in place.Just seems a bit odd that a BT line to 1 house is so essential to be dug up on a Sunday and they have no id only a printed bit of paper. Why not jet let them get on with it, better still make them a brew and get them on side.
ID is not a legal requirement BTW. Just the section 50 notice.
Street works are carried out by statutory undertakers using equipment and machinery on or under the road. Statutory undertakers include:
Utility companies.
Licensees under section 50 of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA)
contractors
Street works are necessary to provide and maintain utility services, but can be disruptive to road users.
Yea jump on me, I’m only asking a question as I don’t know the answer. I haven’t been hassling them just asked what they were doing and why they were doing it today.
It’s only a line for a single dwelling.
And health and safety, they are smoking whilst using a petrol grinder with no kind of protection....

Your last sentence is exactly why people are “jumping on you”, although they aren’t really. It’s only a line for a single dwelling.

You are clearly bothered by it, as you’ve posted on here.

It’s a job that needs doing, plenty of companies work 7 day weeks now. Is the issue that it’s disturbing you?
Plenty of scallys round here pretending to be workmen whilst stealing coping stones, walls, flagging etc. Plenty of new scamsOP is right to check if he wants.
Be lucky to get a response from a council or utility co on a weekend so an ideal time to steal stuff etc.
I know that I cannot work in a house on a Sunday because of noise disturbance and I was just wondering what the rules were, I’m not going to go and harass them to get them to leave, they were courteous and explained what they were doing, at the end of the day jobs have got to get done. It’s an area I don’t really know anything about and just had a question to ask.
Just curious

Just wondering why it’s necessary on a Sunday, as I asked them and they said no idea just came up as a job to be done immediately, just thought it to be a bit odd
Because I work on a Sunday and am sick of them doing deliveries, road works, essential maintenance on my day off so I asked them to move it away from Wednesday .Thanks for the consideration
