Yesterday I allowed myself to get wound up by a taxi driver, he was picking up a woman & 3 children in a street around the corner, this street is narrow with parking on both sides leaving only sufficient room for single run of traffic. What wound me up was that the taxi had just stopped, blocking the road despite there being a space for nearly 2 cars on one side & at least 3 on the other & when I suggested to the driver that he should perhaps not be an inconsiderate cock & park so that traffic could pass, he said he can stop where he likes. We had a short "discussion" about what gives him the right to do this & I suggested that if he didn't move I might move it for him, by this time there were several other vehicles behind me & a couple of others coming in the opposite direction with gridlock imminent. I then drove forward trying to squeeze past the taxi & because of the red mist I touched a parked car causing very minor damage. I got out to see what I'd done, the taxi driver came over & started pointing to some damage on his vehicle, a cracked bumper & a scrape about a metre long, I said that I'd touched the parked car but not his vehicle, he was having none of it, the woman in the taxi became abusive & said she'd felt me hit the taxi. He asked me for my details & I gave him my business card then he refused to give me his. I tried a few doors to see who owned the parked car but with no luck so left a note & a business card. Fortunately a guy in a van just down the street said that he had it on his dash cam, mine showed nothing that was relevant, he has sent me the footage & it clearly shows that I did not contact the taxi.
I haven't heard from either the taxi driver or the owner of the parked car, I'm quite happy to pay for the damage to the parked car but would probably not bother to go through my insurance. The note had gone from the car later yesterday & the car isn't there today, both vehicles are showing as insured, I have photos of everything & the dash cam clip, do I need to report this to the police or just wait & see?

I'd certainly report it to your insurer asap.

If they all make a claim you will need help defending it.

Wait until he tries to make a claim then report him for fraud! No need to tell your insurers st this stage as there has been no accident.

I don't know why you think there's been no accident since the OP said there has. By Monday lunchtime there'll be six cases of whiplash.

Yes, definitely an accident, I think I'm more concerned about the innocent car owner, the damage that I did to it & why have they not contacted me. The dash cam footage will put the taxi driver in his place.

I got as far as "taxi driver" and was thinking "tie him to a post and offer him his last cigarette" to be honest.

What a shower of twunts cabbies are.

Just the other day I had one ranting at me outside our local Asda. I was apparently "in his space". By which he meant that I was occupying one of the bays signed for the use of taxis picking up in the pick up/drop off loop. Only there are three taxi bays, and I was in bay four, signed for "ten minutes pick up point, driver must stay with vehicle".

His rant was entirely pointless anyway, as all three of the taxi bays were unoccupied save for his passenger waiting with her tartan trolley/walker in the middle bay. Anyway, I got out of the car, sarcastically stared at the signs, and the paint on the road surface, shook my head and went back to my air con and Kerrang! radio. He 'protested' by parking across the ends of all three taxi bays, thereby blocking any traffic wanting to get out of the one lane, one way drop-off loop. Which, by the time he'd finished making a big song and dance about courteously assisting his passenger into the seven seater, and then slowly and carefully stowing her trolley, amounted to two cars from the ten minute bays and a disabled driver from the row of disabled spaces opposite.

There was no aggression from any of those three drivers, but plenty of shrugging of shoulders and pointing at the three empty taxi spaces. By the time my wife came back from the post office and cash machine he'd long gone though.

Then there was the cabbie who roared through the (open) "emergency vehicles only" barrier and nearly drove right into the side of a bus coming in to park at the stop on the other side.

I feckin' detest cab drivers. Round the lot of 'em up, tie 'em to posts, and shoot the feckin' lot of 'em. You'll never see one parallel park on HIS (or her) dime, but they're quite happy to do an eleventy-billion point back-and-forth shunt to get into a space when they're on the meter... wink

I had one texting away the other day in an NSL, doing about 40. As I overtook him, he veered towards the middle of the road & almost wiped out my motorcycle. I'm normally quite calm, but the mist descended & there was much hooting & 'you are no. 1' gesticulating. After a mile or so, the speed limit reduced to 30 - cabbie catches up & decides to overtake me at at least 70, & the oncoming traffic had to take evasive action. I came close to complaining to the taxi company, but life's too short. The tts need sorting out...

You need to go to anger management classes if this winds you up, there is far worse than a taxi loading up.

Do you get stressed if you are stuck behind a bus that stops at every stop?

What's a few minutes delay unless you have a pregnant woman about to give birth in your car?

Next you'll be on oxygen in the back of an ambulance with some paramedic sticking high voltage paddles on your chest.

That is a massive generalisation, unless of course you've met every taxi driver in the country.
There are good and bad people in all walks of life. I have no idea what your job is but i suspect it too has its fair share of twunts.

Change "a taxi loading up" to "a peloton of cyclists" please. Then hand out the same advice on anger management classes to every bicycle hating halfwit registered as a user on the PH forums. Lets see how far that gets you.

When someone is making up fairy stories about 40 minute delays behind a peloton of cyclists, ask them "what's a few minutes delay unless you have a medical emergency in your car?"

Suggest that they chill out, and take it on the chin.

Or alternatively, realise that you'd be on a hiding to nothing suggesting that, and read the fking thread again, especially the bit where the OP mentions that there were several parking spaces available that would not have resulted in the road being obstructed while the taxi loaded passengers. Then tell us that YOU would just chill out and wait when a taxi driving twazzock decided that parking properly to load passengers was below him, and he can do what the fk he pleases "because taxi, innit, Bruvv".

OP. Seriously. It's time to get hardcore on this cabbie's arse. Burn his taxi. Burn any other taxis registered in the borough, lest he might source a replacement. And burn the cabbie too, just to be on the safe side...

I don't need to explain myself to you. Some people have an irrational hatred of cyclists. Some people have a phobia about bananas. I have an entirely logical, rational hatred of cab drivers. It's a result of extensive research, science led, and evidence based.

Feel free to have your own idiosyncrasies, but please don't presume you have any right to involve yourself in mine...

I used to be a bit of a tt when I was young, didn't any 5hit from anyone but these days I let most things go. What got me was his totally selfish inconsiderate attitude of blocking the road despite there being at least 4 spaces he could have used. I often have to wait in this street when all the spaces are taken while a resident unloads their shopping or such & I don't have a problem with this.
It all comes down to having been brought up with manners & to be considerate of others, I didn't want this turning into a taxi driver bashing thread but it is what it is.

Your lucky he never knocked you out for being such a complete and utter t1t. Then instead of waiting 1 minute youve damaged yours and anothers car by crushing by a spot too small for the taxi to fit. Infact i doubt you have said dash cam footage.
