I know the yellow ones on the side of gantries (not in this photo) are, but what are these?

I believe they are the older version of the ones now installed at the side of the gantries but yes, they are speed cameras.

Damn, so they are still active?

This is on M62 near J25, some of other gantries have got the yellow ones already, some gantries have the yellow ones and these ones. And this particular gantry is not shown on Waze.

That type will flash so if a flash was seen then it's possible it's taken a picture. 14 days to wait with bated breath.

In my experience, Waze is accurate only 75% of the time. That's based on a 500 mile trip Derbyshire - Kent - Wiltshire - Derbyshire last week.

Yes they are HADECS 2, the one that is more covert is HADECS 3 (have a Google, but essentially it is one camera to the side of the gantry and enforces multiple lanes).

I would say that HADECS 2 are more covert. You can't guarentee the presence or abscence of them by looking at the other carriageway, nor whether there are lines on the road (as they tend to be there regardless) and it's very hard to tell if the gantry has these attached or not.

The HADECS 3 are bright yellow, and pretty obvious from a long way back, assuming you know to looking for them.

I gather from people who have posted in here in the know, that hadecs3 have superceded 2. So if the yellow boxes on the side are present I wouldn't expect the gantry cameras to be in operation. But that's just from on here, not my personal knowledge.

However I do work on that basis when driving biggrin

They have been superseded but haven't been replaced.

They're just waiting for the foliage to grow back.

From what I was told on a SAC last year, H3 are operational 24/7; H2 on the o/h gantries are only active when a reduced speed limit is in effect.

Looking at our fleet data (80,000 vehicles), we've not had a ticket for the J25 cameras since 2013.

However we have had quite a few recent ones for 18-19 (GMP area) & 27-28 east and westbound, and also 30-31 westbound only, ( both in West Yorks Police area)

Thanks Steve. Good to know. Most likely only Hadecs 3 are working in this area.

I've noticed all the Hadecs 2 have been removed from the gantries recently on the Nottingham stretch of the M1, think some have gone on the M42 as well.

I think they came down towards the end of last year one the smart motorway was completed, and were replaced by very active HADECS 3 cameras.
The average cameras that were in place during the roadworks were also very active/lucrative.

Or relying on trucks in the inside lane obscuring them

I think the HADECS2 have gone from the M6 J7 to J4. The only HADECS3 i'm aware of is just before the M42 junction (both directions)
