If my (or a staff members) car set off a speed camera, I'd like to be notified as soon as possible. With them being digital why can't a text, or email if text deemed inappropriate, be sent to the keeper?

Benefits both parties I think and could save costs in the long run.

Because the Road Traffic Offenders Act doesn’t include that method of service

(1A)A notice required by this section to be served on any person may be served on that person—
(a)by delivering it to him;
(b)by addressing it to him and leaving it at his last known address; or
(c)by sending it by registered post, recorded delivery service or first class post addressed to him at his last known address.]

If there was another part d) by electronic means such as email

Then it could.

There is also the issue of the reply which is used to identify the driver satisfying the legal standard.

Who would they send the text to? How would they get the number to text to?

I've always thought that the system could be a lot quicker than it is - but with no requirement to provide an email address when you register a vehicle, the system is a long way from changing.
There is absolutely no reason why a speed camera with an internet link couldn't email it's own tickets - the ticket would either be waiting for you when you got home, or on your mobile to read and enjoy (for 6pts) whilst you continue your journey.

If a staff members car set off a speed camera, surely that is between the staff member and the authorities?

There may be no technical bar to doing that but there are a lot of legal and evidential reasons why that is not possible.

Good idea, why not then decide guilt using AI and take fines directly from our accounts?

Also, we could have compulsory black boxes in cars and be fined in near real time.

Technology is ace!

It's absolutely no problem already to control the speed of the vehicle based on its location by GPS. GPS became mandatory on all new cars last month.

So in the future there won't be any speeding, never mind speeding fines.

Here in Qatar, everyone’s phone sim is registered to their ID. You cannot own a sim without the network provider registering it against your ID.

Your ID is pretty much needed for everything including a governmental phone app / website which handles most admin tasks such as reporting accidents to police etc. Indeed if you incur a speeding violation, you will receive a text within 48 hours informing you of this. Quite a good system but also very big brotherish.

Yup, deeply depressing. And we'll express our outrage over the internet. Policed by consent, my arse.

Of all the things to get deeply depressed about “not being able to speed” doesn’t even make the list afaic.

To the OP -given that we can get MOT reminders via text it shouldn’t be that difficult for some sort of system to be set up IMO.

Sounds like one more set of details for the dvla to sell to third parties. I expect they have already worked that out and will do it shortly.

Soon you can have parking eye sending you threatening texts for overstaying in Aldi. Or whoever else the dvla sell your details to.

If they are in a company vehicle, your telematics will be telling you they've exceeded the speed limit as they do it.

What about getting trackers in the car and having alerts sent to you when they are speeding?
