Parking Charge Notice
Discussion
Got one of these stuck on my screen today, £100 or £60 if I pay in 14 days. If it was a parking ticket I'd pay no problem, but I don't feel to obliged to pay a private company really, It's a max 3 hour stay, unless you walk away from the shopping plaza. I parked it up at 2:40, went into Poundland then left round the back after I finished. I got the car at 4:45 and that's when I saw the ticket. Could I send them a tenner along with a letter along the lines of "This is a goodwill gesture, if you don't want to accept it, feel free to take me to court". Surely they wouldn't bother going to court over £60-£100 would they?

What is the signage like?
If you can see the signs where you parked and they're clear, pay up!
Most forum bulls
t says they won't take you to court but trust me (very personal experience) they will!
Also disregard smart replies or sarcastic antics, the court look down on this.
Whatever you decide DO NOT ignore, this is out dated poor advice.
Edited to add; they took me to court over a £60 single charge where I too ignored the signage, when it got to court the judge simply said if you could see the signs from where you parked and chose to ignore them, pay up.
To be honest no offence intended but you did leave the plaza AND overstay so probably pay up chap

Hve a look on pepipoo for cases like this
The company should mityigate their 'losses' and by that advising you that should you leave the site you will be liable
However DO NOT contact the company until you have checked with pepipoo and in no circumstances say who was driving. Always refer to the person behind the wheel as 'The driver' in the friver did this the driver saw that
These cases are winnable at POPLA by that i mena you keep your cash in your pocket and not theirs
It is up to you how you are going to proceed, the pepipoo route will take a bit of your time but you will learn al ot avbout these companies, and one last hint
Do EXACTLY what they tell you to do
some people havent and get grasped firmly by the balls by the parking companies

He didn't overstay and how do they know he left the plaza unless some sneaky employee followed him?. He left Poundland via the back.To be honest no offence intended but you did leave the plaza AND overstay so probably pay up chap

In principle he should pay up though, it was a fair cop, but loads of people do exactly the same thing.

Wow, parking spies.
You obviously didn't notice that shifty looking bloke sat on the bench with 2 eye holes cut in his newspaper..
P.S. The surveillance drone targets Pound land shoppers who think they'll be OK if they spend a quid. You should have utilised the anti"- surveillance technique of visiting Poundstretcher. Rookie mistake.

Oh no doubt I'm in the wrong, you'll get no argument from me, I just don't really want to pay a private company money for no real purpose, if it was a parking ticket then by all means I'd've paid it already, but I won't pay this one unless it's necessary.
It's not for no real purpose though is it, you left the site and agreed via the signs that you wouldn't.I will be the first to say I tried to fight these private parking companies and dodge tickets, but it all caught up with me and I had to pay what I owed plus costs.
You agreed to the signage when you parked there, so time to pay up chap, next time don't Park there if you're going to leave the site.

Nail on the head sir, it's time to pay.OP is on the wrong.
Before anyone pipes up that I'm involved with parking companies or I support them, I'm not and you're wrong, I work as a gas engineer so I'm all over the place parking here there amd everywhere and got into all sorts of arguements with private parking companies and councils, At the end of the day the court days I've been too the judge has said IT IS contract law and if you don't like the terms, DON'T Park there.
Seems fair in my eyes and in some cases I Park elsewhere instead of giving some of these b
ds my money. All the best everyone
This happened to me a few years back. I sent a £12 cheque (twice the maximum the nearby Council charge would have been). I wrote ‘if you cash the cheque by Jan 6th, I will deem you accept the payment, if you do not cash it I will deem you have waived the charge’. They cashed the cheque, and I got a letter saying they accepted that payment for the parking charge. That was before the Beavis court case. I am not sure that would work now.

Why dont you put your beliefs up on the pepipoo site, if you think it is claptrap?
You come out with some sense,on other matters. BUT if you notice i advise the posters the site exists. it is up to them to try and save some cash or piss it up the wall like you tell them.
I give them the option ...you do not

Personally I would fight it - at least appeal it. Parking companies are a pain in the behind. I had one invoice me for staying all day when it was their faulty equipment and one try to ticket me when I was parked outside the car park on the public road. I argued both and had both dismissed.
I have read many times that pepipoo is the place to go.

Why? I followed similar advice and got an NCP ticket overturned. aaron_2000 said:

What has the fact that it is private company got to do with it?Forums | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
