Got a PCN from Glasgow council for parking in a clearly marked unused bus stop just before 8pm tonight. Worth fighting do you think?

What did the PCN say? Did you park there deliberately? What made you think you could legally park there?

Pay it, you'll lose it, it's clearly marked.

That's what I figured, I knew it was a bus stop, but being that it wasn't in use.....

I'd say challenge the ticket anyway. You have nothing to lose, and there is always a chance, however slim, that the challenge might be successful.

My last PCN was for parking in a disabled bay at 2.00am. I was pretty much bang to rights, but I challenged it anyway, and it was successfully overturned.

If a bus stop is not in use, you still can't park in it.

What planet are you on?

Sorry, but. Seriously?!

It was after 7pm when I pulled up and parked and I suppose assumed there wouldn't be any wardens at that time of night.

Certainly worth a challenge. The question is: "Is a Bus Stop marked Not in Use a Bus Stop?"

Not sure the other posters spotted this subtlety... the big yellow notice as described above.
The OP isn't claiming the bus stop wasn't in use due to the absence of a bus (which would clearly be ridiculous).

However, I would take that sign as a direction to passengers not to wait endlessly for a bus that doesn't turn up, or sails straight past.
A sign saying 'bus stop suspended' might give more room for a challenge... but that isn't where we are.

Not having a go at the OP, but I would seriously like to know why they thought that it would be okay to park there.

I have had my moments fighting bad signage - but I woud be embarassed to take this one on.

This.

Can I drive in a bus lane when no busses are using it?

It looks like the bus stop is in use - as an internet café of some sort smile

Not defending the OP but,
If you drove past a big yellow sign saying 'Bus lane not in use', would it be so black and white if you then drove in it?

So if it has a hood over the bus stop sign ‘not in use’. You park. Bus company then wants to use it, you are then parked illegally.

Sometimes, motorway speed cameras have a sign saying "Not in use" on them. It doesn't mean I'm allowed to go over 70mph.

The bus stop is out of use, see the bus stop sign

Not the same thing as your example

I stopped in a disused bus bay to answer the phone, got caught by a CCTV camera and received a PCN. I won at appeal, but not because the bus bay wasn't being used, it was because it hadn't been used for so long that the lines were barely visible and not the correct colour.

Extraordinary comment. The op made a mistake, that’s it.

Presumably you’ve never made a mistake?

I think too many people are reading the situation as the OP saying:

"There was no bus using the bus stop at the time so it was not in use"

when in reality, what the OP is actually saying is:

"There was a sign saying the bus stop was not in use, so I thought it would be okay to park there"

To use a variation of the speed camera analogy that someone else mentioned:

It would be similar to speeding past a camera that has a sign on it saying: "NOT IN USE", and then getting a speeding ticket from the camera.
