I just stumbled across this and thought I'd ask what people think

You can drive a car when you are 16 if you get, or have applied for, the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
I guess the intention is to permit some people with disabilities to start driving early, but that wording is interesting isn't it.

So, has anyone taken advantage?

How long is the process of being rejected for PIP? Can you reapply?

I don't know the ins and outs, but in our Sixth Form there was a guy who was driving at 16. He was paralysed from the waist down.

Taking that to the letter, does not matter how long the process is, even after you've been rejected, you've still applied for it, but gov.uk is somewhat dumbed down, and is guidance not the actual law. I suspect the law has some wording that avoids this loop hole.

On the basis that I'm not seeing loads of 16 yr olds charging around I'm sure that you're correct. On the other hand I might be about to become very popular with my 16yr old wink

My nephew in Jersey drove to school on a tractor before he was old enough to have a provisional car licence.
