SPECS: What are these extra devices?

Just been down the A5104 in mid Wales which is covered by a SPECS system enforcing the 50 mph speed limit. Just before (~5 m) each SPECS camera was another post with four square black devices on, mounted one above the other, quite high up. Does anyone know what these are for? Just curious. Can't find any details elsewhere.

I ‘think’ it’s just CCTV to watch the traffic.

We have Vector average speed cameras here with the same thing - camera out on a gantry, 4 square black-faced boxes mounted on the pole to the side.
I always assumed they were just IR lights to help it work at night, but they've just changed from the old "two cameras to cover two lanes" (which didn't have the 4 black boxes) to the single camera system (which does), so they may well be something else...

Don't think so, would not need 4 devices.

Could be radar MIDAS devices to count the traffic flow / rate ?

Was thinking radar / microwave. Road is single carriageway, one lane in each direction. The four devices are all pointing the same way and are present at each SPECS camera site, but nowhere else.

Can't see any MIDAS images that suit.

Yep, that's the ones!

Should be a bloody big sign at the bottom identifying what these things are, something like this has appeared today on a road I use and everyone is slamming their brakes on in a mad panic.

Now I know what I'm looking for I've found this, posts #26 and #27 refer. IR floodlights it is. Still not sure why 4 are required but ho hum.
