Unfortunately, I was involved in an RTA a few days ago. I was in a lane that goes toward a slip road. No other lanes head in that direction. I was cut by a car in the apex of my turn (came from the right and was in the wrong lane) and the driver braked hard. Sadly, my dash cam was not functioning. I reported it to the police, insurance and, insurance fraud database. I secretly recorded a video of 4 men discussing how they were going to claim for various physical injuries. No one bothered to stop. People were too busy horning and swearing at me to move because I was obstructing the lane. I moved a safe distance away where the single lane splits into two lanes.

I am not here to establish fault but this is my first claim in 18 years of driving. I have no idea how things work. Anything else I need to do now? How quick do these things usually resolve? I just want my car back on the road. I never knew a 5mph impact could do so much damage. My bonnet is dented as the other car was a 4x4 so higher up. The grilles are snapped. So not all bad I guess.

Get good legal advice as soon as you can. You need to be driving the claim not letting the everyone get the easy path out and just pay everyone off.

I'm sure you'll get lots of conflicting advice, but to be honest just hand it all over to your insurers and let them deal with it. That's what you pay them for and that will probably be the most hassle free option. Don't admit any fault and voice your concerns about crash for cash, but there's not much else you can do about.

Agree it's surprising how much damage a low speed impact can do. And also how inconsistent the damage can be between the 2 vehicles involved. Years ago my wife went into the back of a small trailer. No visible damage to trailer but her Mk4 Golf needed a new bonnet, headlights and front wing. Then more recently her Mk7 Fiesta was written off but the van which hit her had nothing more visible than a scratched bumper.
