Hi all. Just waiting for the NIP to drop through the door - got caught by a van doing I reckon about 37-38 in a 30 - my own fault, not paying attention on a road where I know there are regularly vans, and kicking myself as I've had a clean licence for 19 years.

My question - do you get a choice of dates for the SAC, as I'm out of the country with work from next week until the end of July (I'd be popping back occasionally, but certainly not on weekdays)? I'd obviously rather do the course than take the points.

TIA

My colleague opted for the course, but couldn't make any of them, so ended up in court.
His heinous crime of 37mph ended costing him over £400 eek

You'll get a choice of dates.

You'll need to complete the course within 5 months of the date of the offence (assuming all courses are the same, which they may not be, so this info may be useless, but that's how it is 'round here).

Best advice - check the force website for the area and find the link for SACs/ Diversionary Courses.

Thanks. I can do pretty much any date after the end of July, it was just prior to that was a problem.

Obviously he's so rich that instead of re-arranging some dates so he could attend, he felt £400 was preferable.
I know which option I'd have taken.

Why didn’t your colleague pay a £100 fixed penalty? Sounds odd that dodging a course led to court proceedings. Too late for a fixed penalty?

I said exactly the same to him..

Originally, he was happy to do the course, and booked one about 3 months ahead. Couldn't make it, so they rearranged for about month 5.
Got stuck at work, so couldn't make the rearranged one, and the period to do the course had expired, so off to court he went, expecting a £100 ish fine plus costs.
The Judge wasn't having any of it and so threw the book at his wallet..

15 days later (the "offence" was on Wednesday 20th) and ... no NIP. Makes you wonder why they bother.

Looks like you were not actually "caught by a van doing I reckon about 37-38 in a 30".
Operator may have been having a cup of tea or otherwise not watching.
Maybe targetting 'gross' speeders and the opinion he formed of you was that you were not going 'too fast'.

Lucky!
