Is 101 anonymous?
Discussion
In a nutshell I've seen a woman buying drugs about five times on my street. The dealer appears to live round the corner so they use my street to meet as it's very quiet. She pulls up in a car, makes a call and shortly after this guy appears. I've seen her handing over money and have the make, model and reg of her car
I don't know exactly where the dealer lives but I know roughly. I don't want this going on outside my house or anybody's house for that matter. I plan to ring 101 but don't want to give my details. Does anybody know if they will still act if the caller is anonymous?
Coming with a serious answer, no it's not.
I made a call to the police on 101 a few years ago, approx. 2.45 in the morning because I could hear banging on a garage door (like someone was trying to break in) but couldn't see where it was. Every minute or so, I'd hear another set of banging but couldn't see anything outside. After a while, I called 101 and advised them of what I could hear but declined to leave my name/address or number as I hadn't actually seen anything and was only making them aware.
I used my work phone to make the phonecall, which had 'Share my number' off by default, so all of my calls were withheld. 20 minutes later I get a call back from the 101 operator asking if I could direct the officers outside to where the noise was as they couldn't pinpoint it's location. I asked how they got my number and she said all numbers are shown even if you withhold it.
Use a phonebox, or call using Skype.

They are exempt from withheld numbers. Technically it is a request the user makes to the phone network, the user can't mandate it and the emergency services have an exemption applied at the network level, if I recall correctly (I have been out of telecoms for a long time!)I made a call to the police on 101 a few years ago, approx. 2.45 in the morning because I could hear banging on a garage door (like someone was trying to break in) but couldn't see where it was. The police will do nothing - how do you know its drugs? You have no address of the dealer, what days and what time does this happen.
Nothing to go on.
Ive reported worse and nothing happens.
Depends where you live. If you live somewhere nice they will show up because they haven't got anything to do. If you live somewhere not so nice they will inevitably be too busy dealing with the people who make it not a nice place to live. Maybe.Nothing to go on.

they can call you back as I've had them do that to me. I reported a bloke smoking drugs in a van near local dealers house (silver foil etc not just a spliff) and they actually got a copper there to search him before he had left. (this is in london, so lucky they had someone available nearby I guess).
I would just report it and not worry about hiding your number etc. I've done it for quite a few things.
