Hello all - just a point of information - the French speed limit on N and D roads (basically anything not in a town and without a dividing barrier down the middle) is changing from 90km/h to 80km/h on Sunday 1st July.

So, those nice broad, straight roads with the trees either side will now have to be enjoyed at a slightly lower speed. It's a nationwide change imposed by the government, and as you can imagine, there are plenty of people in more rural areas like me that aren't too happy, but there you go, decision is taken and there's not much you can do about it.

Just a reminder: in a town the limit is mostly 50km/h, and it's 70km/h on larger roads in urban areas. 130km/h on autoroute as you probably know.

So no different to the route we are going down in this country by our roads changing to 50 mph from 60,

the french are just doing it centrally instead of allowing local councils to bring it in piecemeal

And just like in the uk it will be widely ignored

What those nice roads where the French plated trees on both sides?
So the German Army could march in the shade .....

If you're going to put posts up that appear sarcastic/scathing/critical or are just short and vague, you should expect people to interpret them.

Try learning to think.

You seem to struggle with it as well.

Look at my original post and read slowly.

The reduced speed limit in France is on a two year statistic test.
It may revert back to 90 kph.
But with the increased revenue it will create due to mobile speed traps getting set up as I type this ,then I doubt if it will go back.

Yep, tried that, didn't take long, still not getting it.

Wow, taken at face value, would mean you were actually surprised but as you also mention the 5mph drop (I'm assuming we won't worry about the exact translation from KMH-MPH) which seems pretty small it could be taken as sarcastic/scathing/critical.

Maybe you meant that the drop was so small that it didn't matter and you were Ok with it, perhaps you were commenting that it wasn't worth posting about, maybe you think it should be bigger because you're a rampant tree hugger, possibly you were actually shocked at the fact they were dropping the limit nationally.

As your post was short and open to interpretation and we don't all have the ability to mind reads perhaps you should explain what you did mean or stop being arsey when people try to work it out for themselves rolleyes.

Just a thought biggrin.

They have one of those temporary signs that flash up your speed on the D901 and it's been there about 3 weeks, went past it two days ago and about 200 mtrs further on there was an unattended Peugeot estate with cameras, it was only there a couple of hours as it had gone when I came back along that road but the sign is still there.

Useful reminder - thanks....

I have always wanted to drive coast to coast on the N and D roads in France - I will now need even more time to do it.

I know, but I ignored pedantry in favour of taking the piss out of the French, surely a worthy goal... smile
